In memory of one of our own Ted Watson

Corporate america has a term for job related fatalities called "Acceptable Loss" or in other words, just the cost of doing business. Prior to OSHA, the acceptable loss rate for Steelworkers was one man for every ten floors of construction. My guess as a new member reading these posts is that the loss of Ted was anything but acceptable AND my point to everyone here who cleans roofing systems is that there is no such thing as acceptable loss for a fall related injury or fatality for you either.

Rope Access is a relatively new form of fall protection (i.e. only recently approved under OSHA 1926.500 regs under an ANSI Z359.8 variance). Rope access is the safest and most cost effective means for pitched roof access that not only provides for the safety of the first worker up on a roof structure but also allows for complete structure access w/o having to nail in an anchor. More and More Roof Cleaning Companies are seeking out this new and unique form of training to deliver quality service others cannot and show their workers that their safety matters.

Remember Folks - There is no such thing as acceptable loss!!!

I knew ted very well and worked a few jobs with him here in oregon and spoke with him on a weekly basis. I've never met anyone more passionate about washing and working in general. He will be missed and my heart goes out to his son.

This is horrible to hear about anyone let alone someone that was 40miles down the road from me. If his family needs anything I am 1 call and 1 hour away. RIP Ted

A small tribute to Ted will be placed on my work truck in memory of Ted.

I am trying to find a decal of the same duck in his avatar. I haven't found it yet. I've found many Oregon ducks decals on the web but would like the one he used here.
It will be placed next to a few others I have on the truck.
It will remind me everyday to take a second look at the project we are on. And make sure we have takin all proper safety measures.

I know first hand things can happen in a flash. About six or seven years back I was hurt pretty bad on a job site. I was all alone that day. I packed up my truck and drove home with my entire knee cap sticking out of my leg.
There is an old thread in the Alfa gamma section of what happened. My left knee will never be the same. And still have a nasty scar from the surgery.

I have been up on 45 ft and 60ft lifts and have never worn a harness. That is just stupid.
Seeing that Duck will remind me about slowing down and doing the job a safer way.

Whenever you come across a post by Ted, give him a green dot. It would be cool to see a row of green under his name, just because he loved the dots!

I will see this everyday. It will remind me to slow down and think about taking proper safety measures. View attachment 29160
