1/2'' hose to reel question | Roof pump set up

Up until now, we have only downstreamed and no roofs. Now, I'm setting up a 12volt system.

  • Is there a better way to connect low pressure hose to reel? Right now I just have a straight ss barb and clamp. I'm worried about the hose kinking under the 300' I'm about to put on it. Any advice would be great.

Hey Nick,..Something I do to help with the issue of kinking is,...Turn the hose bard so it's running parallel with the spool,...and then using a conduit type hold down about 4" from the connection, you can transition the hose into the winding direction from there. Works for me. When winding I also try not to compress the hose too much.

Also, if you use a hose like Kuri-Tec, you can get it with threaded ends and then you can either thread it into the connection on a live swivel,..or you can use quick connects.

Couple options. As stated above, and some will use a hose clamp about 6" to 8" over to the left and stew it to the side shield. Here is the way I do it and it works.

I personally buy air compressor hose 1/2 inch. It is cheap and easy to find and chemical resistant. Each is 50ft and I have barbs connecting each. I have about 250ft total but just use as many 50 ft sections as I need and disconnect them from the reel and on to the pump. This saves pump juice and keeps me from having to buy such an expensive reel because nothing ever goes through it. Takes a coupe exra minutes to set up but I only do a few roofs a month.....

Chris Dubbs,..Use of the bend restrictor on your hose connection looks good. I also like the idea you mention of attaching the first few inches of hose to the side plate taking the stress off the connection.

with all those connections, you ever have one come loose while washing a roof?

We use a clamp on ours to extend the arc and stop the kinking. It also helps prevent you from pulling the hose too far and stressing the end at the barb connection.

Thanks-
That's what I did. I also added another 45 degree elbow before the barb. It helped the barb hug the spool a little better.

We used a street elbow and some clamps and it works like a charm. I believe I got this idea from Guy Blackmon.
