Newbie...very newbie

Hello all,
I am looking to get my feet wet in the power washing business but I have zero experience in the game. Currently I'm a 38yr old warehouse manager of 14 years (with the company for 19) who is burned out with the 50 mile commute and long days of making somebody else a lot of money.

I've been stalking this forum for a few weeks now and recently joined. If anybody can lend some advice or offer any options on where I could learn the trade I'd appreciate it! I see I missed the show in Baltimore (I'm in Washington, DC area) and Orlando is a hike but one I might consider doing.

I need to purchase equipment as well. My initial idea is to start small doing fleets and progress from there as I gain experience. I'm also open to doing some work for free just to gain experience.

Hope to hear from you!

Jason Harber

When I first started I wished I would have look at the regulations that my city had on pressure washing. There is a lot of information on this forum for just about anything for the pressure washing industry. I started off fleet washing in a different city then came back to Houston and began buying equipment only to find out that we are pretty strict. Is there any specific advice you are looking for like equipment, detergents, techniques, etc.

What sparked your interest in power washing?

Thanks Juan! I'm sure there are some things that I would never think of in the deepest parts of the regulatory library.

Chris, I want to start my own business so I can be my own boss (of course the wife is the real boss!). Obviously I wouldn't go "all-in" initially but after building up solid clientele I would hope to be able to leave within the year.

Thanks for the welcome and the off Dunrite! I will definitely take you up on the offer. With this cold weather you are right to stay inside for now.

Call Doug Rucker
Attend Dougs PW school
Make lots of money.

Come to Phoenix March 5 and 6. There is a cost to attend. Rest assured, all the money is being used as advertised, and not to pay those that are presenting. There are some successful contractors on this board who are willing to teach, and not sell pie in the sky dreams.

Hello! Great info on this site, read read read and you'll learn a ton!

Hey Pat, not at all. I was doing some research on Google and somehow find the forum. Not sure exactly how.

I heard of Reddit but know nothing about it.

I wish I would have attended a couple shows like the one coming up in Orlando later this month when I was a newbie. Would have made a HUGE difference in my first year and beyond. Read a lot of the threads on here as well. Good luck Jason!

Education is key, read forums like this until your eyes bleed. Get out to industry events and training. Softwash systems, UAMCC events, and Doug Ruckers school are all awesome events. I would say also to research your equipment thoroughly before making any purchases. See what the pros are using, also find a mentor.
