Listening to employees

Do you sit down with your employees 1 on 1 and ask them questions about what they want and what they think could help them and the company do better. What would be some good questions to ask so you could help your company.

1. How can we help make your job easier
2.

We have quarterly reviews with all our employees. There is a Review system where they are rated and scored and we make notes on their strengths and weaknesses we are seeing. In this interview we also ask them questions like, "what can we do to make your job easier" "what do you dislike and like about your position" "do you have any concerns about your position" Since I hired an Operations Manager I am not a part of these meetings any longer but they are essential to keep employees in line and keep the communication between the company and employee strong.

This review system is great because we have notes on the employee showing he or she is doing bad or good. So if the employee is messing up it is easier to fire him or her and not worry about paying unemployment because it will be denied if they are breaking rules in the employee handbook. I have saved my butt more than once now by tracking the employees progress thoroughly. Finding good help is very difficult. It is very easy to be taken advantage of as well. Employees will find 1 weakness in the company and exploit it. But the positive side is that when they find the weakness and exploit and you catch them. We write them up and it goes on their record. And then you now know what that weakness was, and fix it. So them taking advantage actually helps the company realize the mistake and fix it so it doesn't happen again. So at the end of the day they are helping you make your business more successful. -Always a positive perspective!
