Post Office

LX 90

Roundtable Host 2009
Hey guys, i was in the post office the other day and i ended up talking to the post master about cleaning the post office. The job would include cleaning the exterior all 4 sides. The walkways, windows, and the loading dock. The building is an off white/tan brick and is very old but other the windows is in really good shape aside from being very dirty. He told me that he doesn't remember the last time it was cleaned so its probably gonna be a one time job, and the district manager wants it done. This is the biggest building/job i have bid yet, so i could really use some help. As far as cleaning it i was thinking 12.5% and soap, maybe something to help it cling to the brick? Here are some pictures of this building. I really have no idea where to price this at. Im thinking somewhere around $2,000? is that way low? Thanks again for any help guys

From my experience cleaning Brick using a strong HW and hot water
What do you mean by HW?

I'm sure it wont come perfectly clean because its been neglected so long, thanks for the reminder though. Ill be sure to make it known it wont come perfectly clean to the customer.
I see you are from maryland, do you think the $4500-$5000 is on par for here?

HW (House wash).

hard to tell based on your pics, I measure and charge according to Sqft for everything. I can say $2000 does seem a bit low considering whats in the pic. I would prob be in the $3800-$4500 range. Things to consider, time, chems, gas, PITA factors (Murphy's Law), and paying your helper. Even if your doing it solo, $2000 still seems a bit low.

So, should the lift be an additional cost to the customer on top of the say $4k for example?

How old is the building, and is that limestone? I would do a couple test spots on the brick to make sure it comes clean with the method you are bidding for... I did an estate that was 100+ years old a couple of years ago with another contractor. It was brick and limestone. The brick had actually leached out minerals over time that were black and they were very complicated to get clean.

I'm pretty sure the majority of the building was built in 1910. I'm not sure if that is limestone or not.

Eric you might get in touch with Aaron Ritchie. He has a lot of experience cleaning different types of brick and stone. One Restore might be the chem to use for this job
Does he sell that chemical?

Well I just dropped off the estimate. The postmaster didn't seem blown away by the price,Said he would submit it today. Wish me luck.

Just heard back today, I got the job.

I'm planning on using a roof mix on this. I am going to go do a test spot soon. Any other ideas what might clean this really well?

Congrats on landing it!

Gives me hope there's still some bids I made that are just this slow to get back to me, haha!
