I would stay far away of any ford products. Especially if its a diesel.

And that is one heck of an uneducated bias.

It depends on what engine is in it. Some of the Ford Engines are actually quite good. Others need to have a couple of things done to them, then they are excellent. Kind of like the early Duramax's, and some of the 5.9 cummins. There is no perfect engine.
I can tell you that I have a small fleet of Ford's and they have been basically trouble free. We have only had two trucks that we have had a continual problem with, which when it is less than 10%, I am a happy camper. They were both fixed under the Manufacturers warranty.

Scott, Im far from uneducated on this. We have had our share of ford trucks since the late 1980s and one of them was always in the shop for something. This is why we don't have them in our fleets anymore. When we studied our service costs and down time for a ten year period it was outrageous. My brother, unfortunately, purchased a 2015 F-250. 11,000 miles water pump went!! Parts were covered but it threw the belt into the radiator and that was not.......$2,300 later new radiator because they had to remove the entire cab.... Thanks ford...

James, so you are saying that to change out a radiator in a 2015 F250 someone will have to remove the cab?

That would really suck, a part less than a few hundred dollars and you have to remove the cab.

I guess it is kind of like my 1989 Mustang GT 5.0 evaporator, you had to pull the dash, seats, console, lower the steering column to get it out, book hours are 8.5 so I did it myself and took 8.5 hours to do it, won't do that again. The heater core is right next to it so I changed it out also, a $20.00 part but over $500 labor to change it out when it goes bad.

The newer vehicles look nice but harder to work on, I bet they are making them that way on purpose so you end up pissing off the local mechanics and have to use the dealer because they are so hard to work on.

That's stupid I have replaced radiators in multiple Ford's for one reason or another, and I have never had to raise a cab, and the radiator, usually an aluminum radiator was less than $500. You got screwed.

I have a fleet of 31 trucks, and 29 are Fords, plus my truck, and my two sons trucks, so make it 34. I can show you that out of the Millions of miles we have run them, I think that only one has been in the shop for more than a few days. That one had a pinched loom from assembly. There also has been one in the shop because of a head problem, for a day. Over all, with the miles, and more importantly the hours, we put on them, they have been problem free.

BTW, you need a better dealer. You should not have had to pay for that.

replacing the transmission in my 'of F250 right now. Over 250k miles on it and the last two years it's been hauling a trailer AND had the Water Dragon skid in the bed. Mechanic said engine is in great shape, replace the transmission and keep going.

I'm living proof of that. I lost count on how many times my truck has been to the dealer. I know it's been towed 4 times though. I'm due for a new truck, I'm just trying to decide on what to buy.

I would not buy a New Ford with all the engine problems they are having. My loaded out 1 ton single axle has 259,000 miles on it and all I do is change fluids and it never quits hauling my enclosed 16 ft trailer. BUT it has the best engine ford ever made 7.3 diesel and could pull just about anything.....

Maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth from how much fords have cost this company.

Incidentally, the only diesel Ford has built has been the current 6.7 and it has received stellar reviews.

7.3 power strokes are by FAR the best diesel ford has ever had. If you take care of them they will run forever.

Too bad Ford doesn't sell glider kits like the big rigs do. I would order a 2015 F-450, put a reman 7.3L Diesel with a 5 Speed manual behind it and forget about it. I can get a left over 2014 Dodge 4500 with a Cummins and a 6 Speed manual transmission for about $6500 more than I can a 2015 Ford with the 6.7L Diesel 6 speed automatic. I won't know what I'll buy next month until I just actually buy it.

Keep us informed.... Going to need to replace my 99 ram 1500 with the 5.9 with a truck with a little more capacity soon.
