All I do is call the trash company and ask for a clean one, no charge.

Joe do you have a signature so we know who you are?

I would figure for this to work you would need a contract with the trash company, and follow them on trash day and clean the cans while they are out and empty. Anyway else wouldn't make since.

We work with many HOA's some have as many as 1450 homes per development. Hypothetically if you could add garbage can cleaning to the monthly fee you could get the entire development at once every month. After speaking to a few of our sites we service I was told the majority would have to vote this in and they did not think the people would approve. So they can clean their own I guess.

I saw a truck at a gas station by my house about 2 weeks ago. He was just driving through so I didn't have time to snap a few pictures of the truck. It was only set up to clean trash cans though and had it's own recycling system right on the truck. It looked like the guy could clean 5 or 6 trash cans at one time with it. Even had special racks and hydraulics for tipping the trash cans upside down. It's the only rig I have ever seen set up like this.

watched a Youtube clip on a wheelie bin washing rig about two years ago I think it was in England. Quite a smart rig but did wonder about the viability. If you had a contract with the bin supplier and could follow the rubbish truck all well and good but if it was over to the home owner and they really didn't give a damn the you could be driving all over the place doing a bin here and a bin there. Wondered about the viability of such a venture.

I looked into this about 3 or 4 years ago and called a lot of customers and the city, the city provides the containers and will swap them out if they are very filthy but they were not washing them as far as I know. Nobody was interested here so I did not pursue it.

It does sound like a good idea if the customers will pay for the service.

About 1.5 years ago the city called around getting prices to clean their bins that are outside in storage and this included new bins and used bins as they were moving them to another location and I gave them a price of $7.00 each if they brought them to their wash pad and took them back and they mentioned that it was too much money and their people did not have the time to move them.

I looked at rigging up a lift device to swing them up manually to wash the bins and that was about $600 for the metal and welder to make the device, no hydraulics. To buy one of those hydraulic devices without the hydraulic pump or controls, a couple of the manufacturers wanted $5000 for the lifting device, no spray nozzles, pressure washer, hydraulic pump, hoses or controls, you would still have to rig up hydraulics or a manual lever of some type so more welding and costs if you did not have a hydraulic system already in place, if you did then just add more controls and hoses but not sure how much more this would cost.

It would be more efficient to follow the trash trucks on their route so you can get the cans after they are empty, before the customer moves them back into the back yard or where they keep them so that they could be washed.

I called a few guys around the country and saw pricing on websites and the prices I saw back then were from $5.00 to about $7.00 per month for once a month cleaning.

To make money on this you would need several hundred stops at least, wash them fast, have a large capacity clean and dirty water tank, a place to dump the dirty water, etc.... I think if you wanted to filter the wash water so that it does not leave a bad smell then you are looking at probably another couple thousand dollars at least and if this involved using bleach then you might not want to run that stuff back through the pressure washer pump.

Maybe there is better filter technology now that would cost less but you are talking filtering rotten food, meat, dirty diapers, etc.... so the wash water will be very bad smelling to say the least and you would need some really good filtering technology so you don't leave the partially dirty trash bins stinking worse than when you started washing them using the recycled wash water.

If you have a large enough trailer and had room for the extravagant filter system (if it really cleaned the wash water and got rid of the stink), room for the large tanks besides the mechanism for tilting, special nozzles (about $3000+ each) and then rigged it all together then maybe it might be a viable add-on service.......if people in your area would pay for this monthly or bi-weekly.

I would definitely ask a few hundred customers if not more to see if they are even interested in this service and see what they would pay (do your market research first) and don't assume people will pay for this as they don't right now and might not want another home owner expense. Just don't blindly believe the manufacturer, always do your research first and see what the numbers say.

    what's up Cream Ridge?

A little shout out to jersey. I'm from Woodbridge. Been in Florida since 2010. Woodbridge had just started the automated cans in 2010.
Pretty much everywhere has the auto bin down here. If I could build something relatively inexpensive $10-$13 per bin is pretty decent. How many ppl would use the service, not sure.
    Deserves some investigation for sure.

I would think that some of the vendors or other manufacturers would make a less expensive rotating nozzle like what these machines use, $3000 for the nozzle is a lot of money and that is just to clean one bin at a time, some of the truck and trailer rigs have 2 to 4 of these nozzles.

I still like the idea of the business but unfortunately where I am not many people were interested in cleaning the bins.

If you have a lot of people interested and can build a route then it would be a great idea.

There were a few companies building the rigs in florida but I am not sure how many there are here in the USA that build the truck or trailer rigs for cleaning the bins.

I would also think what else you can use that nozzle to clean besides bins if it is possible. If you had a large enough truck or trailer then maybe rig up forks and possibly do restaurant dumpsters, charge more to clean and sanitize them, might be a good idea there to just follow the trash truck's route and hit all of those dumpsters if you can get all of them signed up.

I have seen some youtube videos where it looks like a trash truck converted to wash the bins instead of collecting trash but that would require a CDL for the truck and I don't think you need something that large but it would be a long time before you had to go dump the water and refill with fresh water.
