dangerous berner problem

hey guys im having some trouble with my becket burner on my hot water unit. it seems to be staying on after the machine is off. lastime it seemed to stay on for hours a it wouldnt stop smoking and when the sun went down I could see a small flame flickering down inside. but the blower is not going just seems to be staying ignited even without power. I opened the line so the pressure wouldn't build up but I need to figure this out and get it fixed as I have a few jobs waiting on me and I have spent every spare dime and time over the last year to get this rig in business and this is the last thing holding me up so any help would be great thanks in advance.

would it be this part the fuel solenoid valve? thats my guess but I need to be sure before I start buyng parts. cant seem to find much if anything regarding this issue.

If the fan is off, the burner will not generate heat from the diesel fuel (assuming its a diesel powered burner) as the pump that makes this all possible is directly connected to the fan. No pump, no pressure, no fuel, no go. If you have something else burning in the burner it is more then likely insulation, but I can't say for sure unless I open up the burner and take a look.

thank you for the reply. could it be gravity feeding the fuel? or possibly excess fuel that wasn't burnt? . I seem to have a fuel residue on the stainless around the bottom/base of what i would call the coil shroud? and I can defenetly smell it and see a flame flickering way down below the coil where the burner ataches and I had a full tank of fuel and its below half I only ran it for 20min max. also this has not been ran for probably at least 5 years until recently and it did not have this problem before to my knowing.

Sounds like fuel left in the chamber burning off. The best way to fix it is to pull the coils wash them and reinsulate them. Then do a burner tune up . Clean out the fuel pump internal filter and the External filter. Replace the fuel nozzle, adjust the electrodes, adjust the fuel to air mix for optimum burn, Adjust it so it does not burn your nose or eyes.

Wait! John is still around? Nice to see you.

happy easter guys hope everyone enjoyed good food and good company.

And thank you very much john for your help, Im very handy when it comes to getting hands on so I feel confident in fixing the issues that you stated ill do some homework and try to find a wrightup on the process as i dont want to ask to may questions. also is there any special tools i would need? and of corse fuel is involved so there is some degree of danger but is it safe for me to attempt? or should i have it done by a pro?

ok so I got the coil off today and got it cleaned, that was much needed thanks for the advice john im making progress. anyone have a recommendation on where I should order the insulation and is it a special insulation or will home depot carry it??

thanks for the help john as of now I ordered the insulation and internal fuel strainer so im going to try an figure out how to adjust this burner myself if I have no luck ill be in touch thanks again john.

update im waiting on the insulation still it just finaly shipped. and your referring to a smoke test correct john? and ron where you referring to a smoke test also? just curious because i seen you post "test" on my other post in regards to another subject and also on some other peoples post does test mean something that i am not aware of?

Test was a test to see if his computer was posting.
Butt, you should Adjust the fuel to air mix so it does not burn your eyes or nose.

Oh OK. And can I set it without the coil on So I know I won't ruin the new insulation? It currently is set at the 7 notch and has a 3.5 GPM tip. Also what would have caused it to get saturated with fuel? Or what's the main cause of that?

3.5 gpm tip? OMG the burner has Tips rated in Gallons Per Hour! 3.50 gph is a very large nozzle.
Okay tell me about this machine before I have a major heart attack!

RRRRR UUUUMMMMM I'M Freeking out !!!! Blaaaaaa Wowwwooow

sorry lol yes I meant gph big diffrance. and that's what I was thinking as I see allot of talk about 2.00gph but the machine is an all American model ph3500hgod Iirc.

I just worked on that same model the other day, I think it takes a 2.50 80 degree B. I will check.
