Surface Cleaner Filter

I use them on most of my surface cleaners and it helps. Ironically, my recovery mosmatic is the only one I don't have a filter on but my biggest headache on that is rocks getting jammed between the bar and the housing seizing the rotation. On some jobs it happens 10+ times per hour.

One of the main reasons I stopped using my Mosmatic recovery cleaner! One wicked heavy, two it was slow, and last the rock issue. Bought a Whisper Wash Lil' Big Guy and love it!!

I've been getting bad clogging in our whisper wash #2 nozzles. I was thinking about using a high pressure filter but I don't want to restrict flow. Does anyone use the high-pressure filter on their whisper wash? How does it do?

Was thinking about putting some filters on my Whisper Wash's but don't see a filter in a 3/8" size only 1/4".

I went thru a stage where everything was getting clogged up for no obvious reason. And while I was out in my man cave, carrying out the never ending saga of putting things back where they belong, I found a filter I hadn't seen for 10 + years. So I fitted that to the intake hose just before the tank. Dear lordy.....3 days after fitting it & being at about 5 different locations , I unscrewed it. 1 cockroach & enough sand, that were it salt, it would've been enough to have had with a shot of Tequila, & what looks to be some green flakes of paint, Im convinced a pre filter is essential.
Bear in mind, this is mains water supply here in Perth, Western Australia. Its all filtered & treated etc etc.
Run a pre filter on your water supply hose people. If the crap is blocking your tips, its managing to get thru the pump. And that is NEVER a good thing

I have a good filter between the tank and the pump and the little stuff that will clog the nozzles gets through the filter unfortunately.

I plan on having a filter on the inlet hose before the tank but it will not stop the little stuff, getting a smaller mesh filter will probably slow the flow to the pump and I don't want to do that.

After talking to mechanics, they told me to just worry about the stuff that is large enough to clog the check valves, they told me that the small stuff will not hurt the packings or the pump. I don't believe that but I am not an expert.

My Hotsy pump only needed packings after 7 years but then each year after that along with an unloader, thermostat and pressure switch. Year 10 I had to replace the pump, there was a lot of play in the rods and the case cracked badly and leaking oil out, it was on the factory skid so not sure how that happened. My new pump (almost 2 years old) is leaking water in a steady drip when running and has milky oil and the mechanic at Hotsy told me that it is wear parts, not covered by the warranty so I will probably swap out that pump (still not sure yet) and put another on there so I still have hot water and fix the hotsy later.

I was told by the Hotsy dealer to run the filter before the pump from the tank as there will always be dirt getting into the tank somehow and that is true, I keep the lid on all the time but every year I clean out the tank and there are pounds of dirt/sand in there besides dead bugs and some leaves. I am guessing some of the stuff that gets in there is what is in the hoses at places I connect to and what gets in my hose on the reel. Either way I have to clean my filters weekly if not more often.

I have pre-filters before the water tanks and before the pump. I have noticed though ,when starting the machine, I will get what looks like rust shooting out for a few seconds. the water will be a brown color for about 4 seconds or so and then it will clear up. I am thinking it is from the heater coil and hose reel manifolds, not really sure though. but that is the stuff that ends up clogging the tips on the whisper wash. Has anyone had similar rust at startup?

It happens on hot water rigs.

this happens on my cold water setup as well, for me it may just be the water left in the lines/reel till I start it up again.

as a temp solution if you run a ball valve, can always clear the brown water before hooking up to the sc.

I m pretty sure that is the hose doing that. It happens to me when I leave sh in the hose with the ball valve shut. It also happens a lot when my hoses are about shot. Like two days ago, all brown came out first thing in the morning. Ten minutes later my hose burst.

It's good to know the rust at startup is common, wasn't sure if I had another problem on my hands. Thanks for the tips and replies. I just had one of the hose reel manifolds go on me so I ordered a new hose reel with a stainless steel manifold. hoping this stops some of the rust problems.
