Where to find used or new engines??

Does anyone know a place (Preferably on line) where I can price out NEW or USED engines for a powerwasher. I have a Landa Hotwater Powerwasher that has a blown 24 HP Onan engine.

I've been told that Onan Engines are expensive and not that good compared to Kohlers etc. Don't know if I believe that but Considering that a new engine could be pricey I am considering on buying used if new is to expensive.

The engines that I would consider are Honda, Briggs,Kohler and Onan.

P/S- I bought this Powerwasher like this and I want to rebuild it instead of buying a new one for 2 reasons which are: to learn more about these machines and its a much cheaper way to go compared to buying new. The first reason is the biggest one.

Thanks

Thanks guys.
Chuck I'll keep that in mind if I go with buying a used engine. I found a place on line that sells Onan Manuals and Parts. I may try to rebuild this 24 hp Onan. I rebuilt car engines with my Dad when I was much younger so This can't be any harder...At least thats what I'm thinking.

I may even take off an 18 hp Honda Engine I have On one of my Cold water PW's and convert it to fit this Hot water pw. OR I may just sell this project pw. As you can tell I haven't made up my mind yet and 2 yrs have just about passed since I bought this need to be fixed PW.
What to do? What to do.

John T.,
If you have not done any thing to the diesel unit in the past two years you could have further problems. Not trying to discourage you but I have been doing the same thing with a unit I picked up. There has been a lot more to it than I thought.

The burner nozzle might be plugged and the fuel tank most likely needs cleaning. Will the nozze be the correct size for the pump gpm you choose? All of the fuel lines will likely need replacing. Don't forget you will need a filter and water seprator.
Does the fuel pump rotate or is it froze up?

Is the coil ok? Has it been winterized and kept from freezing the past two years? It may need to be cleaned with acid.

Does the transformer still work and are the buss bars ok?

Does the blower motor still spin freely?

Do all of the safety switches still function? Was the system set up for an open or closed gun system? A replumbing may be needed.

Will the burner be powered by 12 volt or 110 volt. If 110 do you have the generator?

Now you throw in the motor, pulley setup, pump, plumbing, wiring, ect.

All things that will have to be checked out to build that machine! Definitely do able but can be very time consuming and have many hidden costs.
Good luck!

I know it will be a project which is why I am debating on doing it.

I bought this PW 2 yrs ago thru this bb. ITs a 10yr old Landa SGHW 3000psi @5.6gpm. In 1999 there was a new coil rap and burner assembly added to this machine for a cost of around $1500 (I have the reciepts to prove this plus these parts and service were done by the same dealer that I deal with). Right after that the 24hp Onan engine started to have problems where one cylinder wouldn't fire so back into a different shop where this person lived closer to. Then soon after that the engine blew. This was at the end of 1999. Supposedly the PW was still winterized.

This power sat in the service center for a year because the person who owned it bought a NEW Alkota PW from this dealer.(She since sold her business right here on this bb for $17000)

I ended up buying this Broken down PW for $500( Another Write off if nothing else). There were numerous others that I know of that also wanted to purchased this Powerwasher and also pay for the shipping.

I ended up buying it because it was only a 1/2 hr from my house so I just picked it up.

IF I decide not to fix it I will show pictures of it here along with copies of the reciepts to it and sell it for what I paid for it. Its definetly worth the money considering how much alone was already put into it.

I will decide soon.

I may also well a few other items here such as one of my Cold water PW which I paid around $2100 for a few years ago and has the most 200 hrs on it. It is a small skid model with 4 wheels with an 18HP Honda that is rated at 4000psi @4gpm. This is a Direct drive Unit that has a very good pump on it. Its also has an electric start. This machine still looks fairly new and has pretty much for the most part kept in my enclosed trailer or my garage.

I just had this PW serviced this year at a cost of around $200.(I had the works done to it, New filters etc.etc.) This machine was purhased from Northern and is similiar to the one in there catalog that has 2 wheels and an 8 gal tank that sells for around $2000 and also has the 18hp Honda. My PW has a 4 gal tank and 4 wheels that can run for around 5 consective hrs at least before refill.

IF I sell this PW I will not unload it for less then $800. ITs in excellent condition. I do have a problem parting with my stuff especially my PW's.

I'll let you guys know what I'll do soon enough.

John T,
Hey I was not trying to discourage you. I just wanted to make you aware of what could await you.

Sounds like the burner may be ok!

I might be intersted in the Honda PW. Does it have a charging circuit on it?
