"Roof-A-Cide" - Some helpful info to DISCREDIT their scam and false accusations

So many of us are familiar with "roof-a-cide" (click here)...

For those that are not... it is a company/product manufacture that produces a "non-toxic" "safe alternative" to cleaning your roof. The funny thing about this company, is that they spend more time attempting to discredit professional roof cleaning methods such as Soft Wash low pressure chemical roof cleaning using CHLORINE or SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE.

They claim that the use of Chlorine or Sodium Hypochlorite (SH) will cause damage to roofing materials such as tile.

They also claim (personally my favorite of all):

  • FACT: No Roofing Manufacturer in the US recommends the High-Strength Chlorine Bleach solutions that are being used all over Florida and increasingly throughout the US.

We all know that to be an extremely FALSE accusation, as we have literature from not only ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufactures Association) but also several SHINGLE AND TILE roofing manufactures who clearly state IN THEIR WARRANTY that their recommended cleaning method is use of low pressure application of a mix of SH and water.

I also found this gem...

and for those that don't already have the supporting documents from ARMA and the manufactures, visit these links below to see them!

Ya, its rough that many get business off lies, smoke, and mirrors.

America has dumbed down many words to say the least.

bleach which everyone instantly thinks of chlorox (sodium hypochlorite one active ing, which has bleaching agents done with chlorine) next to their laundry supplies.
many have oxi clean nearby, another bleach (sodium percarbonate/bicarbonate, which has bleaching agents done with oxygen)
but when someone mentions "BLEECH" what do most home owners you talk to think of? not many I talk to think carbonate.

outside pw industry one of my favorites is "paint thinner"- essentially weak strength overpriced mineral spirits, used for thinning oil/solvent base. you know what else is a paint thinner, water (for water based paints), so I drink paint thinner ever day.

I'm glad I'm able to learn on here about the pressure washing side of my business, there's too much misinformation out there. I'm all for this change through education!

I really like the manufacturer supporting docs you post Centra, helps blow away those smoke and mirror shows.

John,

Glad you can find use for them! I try to take advantage of every opportunity I get to inform the general public, wether its a customer, prospect, or just simply someone in passing showing interest in our equipment.

Keep them on file, or saved somewhere, and use as resources! If you have a website with a blog, BLOG IT!

also, John, I see your in florida. We just started a group on Facebook called "FPW - Florida Pressure Washers".

Not having been in this business long common sense tells me this is bs. Not many products sprayed onto a roof without a certain thickness is going to withstand blazing sun, pounding rain, ice and snow. Give me a brake. Just like my 24hr deodorant last, my armpits are kicking like Bruce Lee before 9am.

I have to deal with the "roof-a-cide" gimick quite often with a neighboring company that offers this services as an add on after pressure washing roofs.

We bid on a lot of the same projects, I just recently went up against them for some 2 story condos. Needless to say if you educate them on proper methods the association will see through the smoke a mirrors that has to be applied after high power washing of the roof.

We ended up winning the contract and were $300 dollars more for each roof. But now I stand behind my work and take pride in properly cleaning a roof as the manufactures strictly state how to safely kill 100% of roof mold, and we offer a 3 year warranty with all our roof cleanings.

Been battling the same thing Dan. At least we're on the same page. Now I'm hearing it's only 400psi we use to blast your roof with.
