Water tank with direct drive machine

Seems like i remember someone saying that direct drive wont pull from a tank like belt drive will. Just tried it out today. Wouldnt pull.... What if i elevated the tank and had it gravity feeding to the direct drive?

Call Russ Johnson and he knows which direct drive pumps will pull and which ones will not.

Some guys have tried using pumps to supply the direct drive pump from the tank, some just keep the hose from the house connected to the pressure washer.

Not sure what kind of pump would work, needing to run the whole time the pressure washer is running.

There have been threads about this here on PWI before talking about the same thing, just cannot remember all the details.

I ran 13 Hp Honda with General 3040 and 3045 pumps for 18 years with no draw or prime issues.100 gallon tank outlet was about level with the pump inlet if that matters. And was fed by another 200 gallon tank.
I remember seeing all the discussions about this over the years and couldn't figure why others had so much issue. Brand of pump or setup I guess.

This particular pump was GP. 4 gpm 4000 psi. It seems like i saw someone with a setup to where the inlet and outlet for the tank were on the same fitting, just opposite ends. Seems this setup would effectively force the water through to the pumps. Any input?
