Surfactant and Detergent?

I can't even buy a gallon bc there is a $25 minimum and when I choose 2 it's still $30 shipping. Is he the only one that sells it?

Hello everyone I am somewhat new to chemical cleaning and have been only doing this for a year part time mostly. Where I bought my equipment i asked the owner what is the best mixture to clean tile roofs in south Florida and he told me that it depends on the day and how bad it is. He recommended using a 70%-100% SH mixture depending on the job. Before all the pros start bashing me about this I searched for hours looking up surfactants and detergents and found nothing in the search button. So my question is, should i be mixing any surfactants or detergents to my mix and are there any house soaps and detergents that i can use to reduce my cost? I have asked many local guys around here and they just apply SH mix and that's it, some of them even say they don't rinse off the roof and let the rain do it. Thank you for all your answers and advice.

Bira, I ran into the same problem before ordering from Russ at Southside. The problem is that the online store has a set amount to charge per item. So, if item #1 is $20 per gallon to ship, then if you order 3 of them, the computer automatically thinks that shipping will be $60 and will charge you for that amount. Well, after talking to Russ on the phone, he informed me that he gets the order and ships it as cheap as possible, and will adjust the total accordingly. So, lets just say you order 3 of them, and the compter tells you it is $60, Russ and them box them together and can possibly ship them for lets say $25. Now, I am just throwing numbers out there, I don't know exactly what the numbers are....just letting you know that I was shocked like you, and started shopping around all over the internet, but at the end of the day, I still bought from Southside. We all like to save money, especially on shipping, but it's something we all have to remember when quoting out jobs.

Thank you everyone for the answered questions. Today I tried Fabuloso on my 100 gallon mixture i used 2 gallons of it and it really didnt mask the smell as much as i thought it would, it almost seemed like the SH mix ate most of it. Then i tried the pinalen max as well on my 50 gallon mix and the same thing happened. What scent boosters are you guys using from the power wash store or similar online stores? I see they have cherry, lemon and some other ones but which one would you guys say has the best smell in your opinion? I ended up just filling one of the fabuloso gallons and added a little fabuloso and topped it with water and went around the driveway and entrance pouring it that way the customer smelled that instead lol.

It sounds like you are wasting time and chemical, I would go to Doug Rucker's school to shorten the learning curve. What it would cost for you to go there and learn for a couple days will easily be justified on how much faster you will be on jobs, how much time and money you will save and now you will be only using what works instead of trying out everything you can find at grocery stores or the hardware store.

As for the shipping, call Russ with your order and be done with it, I call him with all my orders and know it will be handled professionally and shipped at a great price. There are other vendors that have issues with the shipping calculators on their websites, more reasons I call them with the orders. You will not find many other vendors with the knowledge and customer service that Russ offers.

Aren't you the guy that was using straight SH to clean a roof? So you would rather spend an extra $20 -$30 per roof on SH, rather than use 50-60% water and 12 ozs of roof snot? Where did you go to school?
Go Here, ask to join, and talk to the inventor of roof snot, the inventor of dragon grip, and 100's of other people that will guide you in the right direction.

Guys I stopped using straight SH like 7 roofs ago. I didn't know any better and now I do.

This was june before he lowered the price. Don't know why snotmende would be more expensive to ship. Its the same size and weigh. roof snot rinses easily and perfectly clear. Can't see how you can get better than that.

Love the Uamcc discount

You are absolutely right about that. Any recommendations on what to buy for those kind of roofs?

If you've never used safety equipment, Check your area for a climbing equipment store and pay them a visit. Tell them what you need the equipment for and they should be able to assist you. A standard body harness is adequate however, You need to know how to properly attach your lines to the harness and how to do a self rescue in the event you have a fall.

Approx. 18 years ago, I was working on a 2 story house here in Maryland which has a fairly steep pitch and everything was going as usual and suddenly, I slammed against the roof. After trying to figure out what had just happened, I looked up to the peak and realized the only thing which saved me was my 1/2" life line. The ironic part is, I had just started using the equipment 3 months earlier. I was 2-1/2 stories off the ground at the point where I slipped. I most likely wouldn't have survived the fall and the life line did its job. I ended up approx. 3' below the area I slipped So keep in mind, When you start using the equipment, Make sure your line will "NOT" allow you to get any closer than 6' from the edge.

Yes, It's a pain in the ass with the extra set-up and tear down time but I look at it this way, I still have an ass to have a pain in......

Also, When you purchase the safety equipment, Purchase a "ROPE" protector. They are simply a canvass sleeve which you will need to adjust as you move back and forth from side to side however, The rope protector prevents the roof ridge from cutting and fraying your rope.

I purchased all of my equipment from JRacenstein out of New York. They sell window cleaning equipment and offer fall protection equip. I'm sure someone else here on the forum can provide other resources as well.
