Success

Sorry, I have been busy the past few weeks, and have had some family things that have been going on.

Just a quick thing to remember, someone else's success is not your failure. If you are angered because someone else has won a successful account, it really shows a lack of confidence in your own abilities.

I will get back to more practical power washing basics later.

I lost a heavy equipment account a couple years ago, no reason why, only stumbled upon the other company washing the equipment while going to another call. At first I was very unhappy, although about 8 months later I ended up washing all their equipment at the auction (Auction pays me) as they had went bankrupt. I had everything paid up, but good chance the guy that I saw washing was out a bunch of money.

Felt bad for the guy, didn't feel bad about losing the account then.

I've found a lot of times it's the "First or Last" situation. You're the first bid and they want it done so they say yes right away. Or you're the last bid and they all look about the same so they go with you.

This shows how important it is to create a feeling of the "first bid" situation with the client.

Once you know you can do everything right and still not get the job it relieves the stress of not getting it.

If im the last guy i almost always win

Obviously they didnt go with the other guys because there was something lacking-comfort/knowledge, etc

I dont really care much or even think about those things to be honest anymore

I worry about myself. I know what it is that I need to do for myself to succeed. I actually send people to my competition. Just heard this last night on an episode of " game of thrones " " do you think I am petty enough to speak ill of a man just because he represents competition."

I Agree with that.

There is a lot of pressure washing work out there. That is especially true in this industry I'd imagine.

We can't win it all! Is right, but if you don't know why you're loosing them ya better get out of business. Its not always price. If you are at least competive or within 40% and still loosing half its you. Having not hit 1 year in this business I've learned 1 huge thing and something thats very hard to overcome that being impersonal estimates.
And sales are becoming a very impersonal thing as society increasingly becomes disconnected where a nice smile and firm handshake means nothing via a text message. The antisocial estimate for me means I'm loosing 95% no question because they are just price shopping or its my competition calling for a clue. Now person to person yr to date 81%. . But imop its better to build a strong price list and customer base if you want any chance later to provide future employees a salary worth waking up for and less chance of them becoming competition. Here's a great way to know if your sales tactics are working especially if you have a big pain in the ass over bearing family like I do. I'm the yougest of 6 with 4 older sisters, yeah you know what I'm saying. Your family is a great asset to calling bs. Have them call you for an estimate using a different name and make sure they are hard on you start to finish. Have them tape record every conversation initial phone call then in person. Clean their house. Then afterwards during your walk around how did you address every concern they initially called you for. Then listen to the entire recording and judge yourself and were you calling them by their real name or alias. I personally have a huge problem remembering people's names and its a huge personal flaw that needs addressing. I can tell you it pisses John off when I say Jim 3x's. 15 years remodeling homes I've learned 3 important things 1 hold their hand throughout the process 2 be patient 3 listen listen listen. Sometimes we just don't shut up about how great we are and all they hear is this guy's trying to rip me off.
