So in 2015 our company pretty much had everything that could possibly go wrong happen to us! It was a rough year! Although our numbers don't reflect a decrease in gross revenue, I feel like we have been boxing in the 12th round getting pounded on all year long.

Where to start with all the Negatives...
-our office manager lied to us and stole a significant amount of money from us - she was obviously terminated and soon should be facing criminal charges
-we were audited by OSHA during our move from one facility to another and although we were compliant we were fined - we also fought it in court
-a past employee from 2012 filed a workers comp claim for permanent disability - going to court still for it
-one of our employees damaged a client's property so we fired him and he filed for unemployment and we were forced into an unemployment court and she won, because the judge said she did not mean to damage the property and ignored the other two previous write ups
-we were sued by a person who claimed a slip and fall
-we had some accounting issues that got out of hand and not quite sure how that happened but definitely did not help that our accountant was stealing from us! haha
-in early 2016 we had our most expensive trailer stolen!

I could obviously dwell on all this negativity and give up or complain and cry. But I can honestly tell you that my company is STRONGER than ever! We have learned from all these mistakes and it has forced us to apply new procedures and implement better policies that assure nothing like this well ever happen again. I feel like my company is built for WAR! haha
There is really nothing in life that hits you that you can not turn into some type of learning lesson. And although there are guys on here that can try to help people from having these same issues happen to them. There is something about learning it first hand that makes you stronger and better. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger - as they say.

The positives
-we have the best office manager now we have ever hired (4th hire in that position since 2010)
-we are 1000% OSHA compliant and have safety meetings every Wednesday
-we have spruced up our safety inspections and training procedures and most importantly hiring protocol to prevent workers comp claims
-we have a new contract that all our clients sign relinquishing us from slip and fall liabilities - im sure it wont always hold up but good to have
-we have gone through all our books and cleaned everything up and got it back up to 100% again.
-we have purchased better security cameras and lights as well as got our place alarmed and purchasing trailer locks

Anyway, just wanted to share with you guys, I have a feeling that 2016 is going to be a great break out year for my company. I am shooting for $3M and if you don't aim high you'll always shoot low.

I'm in the same boat! Getting to the point in life where I realize I may be holding my own self back but I cringe at the thought of all the aggravation which will come along with hiring strangers... We had sixteen people working for us from the late seventies until the recession of 1982 and I still haven't forgotten the calls we would get at 6:00pm on a Sunday evening with one of the crews saying they weren't able to do a certain building and we would have to drop everything and head out to do their work!!!

You are still here most importantly. All those things can be resolved in time. Sometimes its better being hit with a sludge hammer so everything else you encounter later becomes nothing. Employees suck plain and simple no matter how loyal they are today. People change, circumstances change and honesty and loyalty fade with time. 1 good thing did happen. You found out sooner than later about the thieving office manager. 1 - 2 more years she may have destroyed you're business. I hate thieves they are just road scum.
I hate them so much my face is actually scrunched up typing this.

Sorry to hear that Ty. Although on a much smaller scale than yours, we also had a rough year with some similar reasons. It's definitely difficult to stay positive at times.

Jason, I feel ya buddy but I guarantee you learned some lessons throughout the drama. It was meant to happen to make your company stronger.

You're 1 of the best out there that I know Ty. You're an inspiration to all of us on here. Hopefully if everything goes as planned this year for me this will be my last year in this business. After 11 years of doing this I'll be looking forward but sad in many ways to sell my business.

Ty brother, you're not alone. Granted, what happens in your business (good or bad) happens in scales.. you're still a big inspiration to us all and perseverance is what makes business owners just that... business owners.

I remember when I first called you and asked some noobie questions when I was first starting... and here I am, climbing the same ladder you have already conquered.

It's going to be ok brother. Onwards and upwards stud!
