Great idea for PWI

There's a ridiculous amount of info to sort thru and even using the search function can be time consuming to find an answer.
I understand that's the way it is BUT it would be amazing to see very thorough articles written by the vets on board here.

For example I'm thinking about writing an article "How to pressure wash a house in under an hour" ....basically the fastest most
efficient way to clean AND without having dead plants, $20k setup, etc. Baseline for someone just starting out in the biz , let's say
4gpm 4000psi machine, a chem injector, reels, 35 gallon chem tank--u know just a small trailer setup.

I'm talking tips and tricks and the preparation/setup before the job. A real quick rundown or primer
on how to "get it done" fast!

would be amazing with a 30 second vid and maybe a five minute read.

and as an aside i know i'm just small time but still have a TON to offer to beginners.

I would love to hear what apple roof cleaning has to say on the subject bc I know he will kill it

and doug rucker i know you have a school for this but c'mon man chime in with your thoughts

Sorting through the information is how you learn,..and part of the fun. I prefer to think of these boards as place for professionals to EXCHANGE information more than a way to give every knucklehead inspiration and guidance in a World he/she knows absolutely nothing about on their own.

Still to this day I remember a post made by Chris Tucker a few years back,..stating: "This is insanity",..meaning having a forum disclosing all this information to guys who never even cleaned anything exterior on someone elses property. And he was right. I realize many use the boards to jump start their business,..and that's the way it is,.....but to pandering to these "greenhorns" by taking the time to write an article "JUST FOR THEM" is going above and beyond.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime. With that being said, this sounds like one long and confusing article you're talking about. There are so many variables that come into play on jobs. Not all houses can be done in an hour. Some houses, i make my house wash mix stronger than others. And like jeff said, finding the information is how you learn. If you're not smart enough to find the information, you may not be smart enough to comprehend some of it if it were just handed to you. This isn't done to make new guys have a harder time starting up. This is done to help make PWI not responsible for a wave of hacks saturating the market. The majority of questions that a newbie needs answered can be found on here in a weekend. The other questions come with experience and occasionally asking the guys on this forum.

Now I know why you don't do Facebook Jeff. It would drive you crazy. You wouldn't believe how many times a day you read. I am bidding a job, how do I do it and how much should I charge? It is unbelievable. Then the next day they post pics of the side of a house all striped up, and ask how to fix it.

Ha,Ha,..yea Ralph,.I've seen those pictures on the boards over the years. The information on these boards is just enough to make a man "dangerous",. They get lots of enthusiasm,..run out and buy some chemicals and pumps and rips into it. Some do make good use of the information,..but too many don't.

Whatever the bottom feeders gain from professional conversations should be considered a BIG privilege.

Funny, I have heard many in Florida say the same thing about RCIA....

Heres my take....I am not into posting how to's on forums as their is just way to much typing and way to much stuff to cover. I feel like we all have to be careful about the information we share cause of you miss explaining one important step in the process, could this person then hold you liable for the damage he caused because you didn't explain it thoroughly. to tell someone to "hit with a strong mix" and know all the particulars of a job is scary to me...it used to not be, I and I use to do it, but I am trying to stop it. I have gotten to the point where I can only help guys that have attended or are attending my school, or guys I know are in the UAMCC, etc etc. I have to know that they are committed to this industry and that they will be around for awhile as I help them.

Go to training classes and events and practice on your own time . Pressure cleaning is a repetitive business the more you do it the better you get . Every problem is a training event to get to the solution.I received two calls last week . One from a home owner with a glass problem involving a painter who let chems dry on the glass .Huge contemporary .Law suit ! I wrote a long response on a thread over 20 years ago on the issue and the fix . The window cleaning company hired are using it ! Home owner has called to thank me and go over process . The other was a pressure cleaner with an issue that was a specific and I had written a response on it that helped him . It was 10 years ago and he call to thank me and just to go over how to solve it . Both did major major research on the subjects and to find the solution . Pretty cool ! Where's my consulting fee ? Great feeling and got the juices going again .

Well said, and this is true for everyone from seasoned veterans of the industry and newbies alike. If your not getting better every day, chances are you are getting worse or left behind.

I am dumbstruck by my own progress over the years in this business, I use to clean parking garages with 4 gallon machines attached to a hose and turbo twister and wonder why it takes so long and we never make much money, probably didn't actually.

But I read, studied, experimented and invested in my operation and now we make money and grow every year. The information on these forums is an asset that most industries lack. The guys who put it together are real beauties!

In my opinion if you don't take pleasure in ready every post and soaking up this available knowledge you may be in the wrong business.

It's called putting your time in.

Practically everything you need to know is here.

Just research it and try it out

Go to some roundtables and make some friends and pick their brain a bit

I almost went broke putting my "time" in, spent my last dollar joining the uamcc thinking all the roadblocks and hurdles to the "correct" information would be available it's not, at least not to someone who isn't where I was, to this day I still spend an extraordinary amount of time researching and learning new technologies new processes, business practices, marketing, application etc. The thing is, it isn't available because it does not exsist. There is a basic standard of information doesn't matter about size type or material,
There is a home or office building, that's a vertical structure, there is a driveway pool deck or parking garage that's a horizontal structure, there is a roof top that's doug's structure lol.
The material plays a part in your mix and the surface orientation will determine your application method. Point being my hw mix may not work on houses up north and my flatwork mix may not work in Seattle, other than basic principles for bmp's everything else is preference and experience, what I've learned from these forums and fb groups is A. Business is business and my goal is to not be your business but be mine, and be better at my business than anyone else can. B. Asking for pricing I now know is stupid. 2 things come of it, 1. They give you a high price if your a local competitor and come behind with a lower bid. 2. They give you what they would bid and that doesn't work with your business model.
C. I have learned not everyone cares to help and misinformation is what actually hurts the industry
D. There are owners and owner operators, an owner knows how to get jobs and make money only using subs, an owner operator has taken the steps to learn and build and remains grounded even when they are no longer in the field
There's also the guys who own a pw company and pretend to be facilities managers and sub the work they sold for 10% of what it paid, hiring people unqualified to do the work, that creates low ballers with experience.
If I know nothing and you call me and give me an apartment complex for 6000 I'm excited and glad to have work that will pay 6000, but now I'm bidding that same type of work for 6000, and the 60000 you made on one you'll have a hard time selling it to the next one who allready got a bid from the sub you hired who has a portfolio of the job they did for you showing the quality of there work, if it was good, they get hired, industry looses. Morals and ethics only exsist for those who have them.

sure there are guys who are going to have their guard up but there are a lot of helpful guys ive met along the way

If i can help- feel free to call me

I know, I love learning and even more love teaching, I have trained my customers and my competition, I was naive believing that people were as enthusiastic as I was about helping the industry above my bank account, I've learned some lessons and I general guys are great and networking is essential to growth, locally the friendly has seemed to stop
