Moss on roofs

I have not started doing roofs yet, but I am looking to build a rig for it.

Most roofs here have tiles and not to many with shingle. Some have only black streaks, but a lot of them have moss growing on them as well. This roof just have some growing at the front of the tile, but often more of it is covered. How would you wash this? Can I simply soak it with a roof mix, or does it need to be removed it with a brush or something?

Well, If the moss isn't any worse than the photo shows and it's not visible from the street and if the customer is okay with it taking a while to break down and wash off with rain, you could just apply the roof mix and let it go.

However, If it's visible from the street, You might want to plan on brushing it off. You could try a small area with the roof mix and see how it looks after turning the tannish/whitish color that it will once it's been killed and make a decision at that point.

Anyway you look at it, That needs to be addressed before it gets any worse. If need be, remind the customer/s that moss is just like a sponge and will wick and hold a good bit of water which may leach to the underside of the tiles.

This roof does not have a lot of moss compared to other roofs around here. I took the photo after the costumer wanted me to take a look at the roof when I was doing a house wash. You do believe the moss will get rinsed away away in a couple of months and some rain storms?

I dont think it will let go after a 20-30 min dwell time, if the costumer request a rinse?

Tile like that having moss?

Id just wash it off- kinda like washing concrete- just slowly dial up the pressure

Will that risk pressing water into the roof construction, under the tiles?

The access of the roof(s) will play a role. If you can access it safely I'd think the moss could be worked off with a soap nozzle. Having never done a tile roof in my life,..but,..they always look slippery to me?
The good thing is,.the moss can be simply killed and allow time under hot Sun and rain to dissolve it away. Doing the spray and walk away does work,..Can take a few weeks to a few months,.depending on severity of the growth. But it's a safe way to do it and much easier than climbing around on the roof.

Thanks. Most of roofs here are pretty steep, so spraying from the gutter will be safest. I'll do some tests with a pump up sprayer and se how long it hangs on there after.

I was asked to clean this roof, 7600 sq feet. Its a lot of thick loose moss I am going to rinse off with a water broom, and then spray roof mix. Its most growth on the top tiles (ridge tiles?). Will it be gone after a couple of months, with no rinse after spraying? I sits on there real hard:



Also how much mix do you belive it will need? I think ~50/50 mix of 15% SH
