My Experience: EBC on driveway oil stains (pics)

Driveway has had oil on it since I first saw it a year ago. Not sure how long it's actually been there total. I asked the homeowner if I could test an oil stain remover, no charge to him.

On the 2 right stains, I sprayed 100% EBC through a pump sprayer. The 2 left stains had a 50/50 mix of EBC/water through pump sprayer. Soak time was about 10-15 minutes, followed by agitation with a broom.

I have a 5.6/2500 cold water machine and didn't use any other chems other than EBC.

I ran my surface cleaner over entire driveway, then rinsed with my white tip.

The final result: unacceptable. The driveway is much cleaner, making the stains stand out more than before.

Other than the, "you need hot water" answer, does this driveway have a chance?

Miguel majority of the oil stains that are that big an left for so long will not be able to be gotten up 100 percent.I tried ebc not really a big fan of it alot of guys are using it though. When i put a mix down on an oil spot i like to see it at least change a color an start running brown like coffee then we are getting somewhere.Order some more deagreaser in the sample size an try them you might get it better but not 100 percent.

I have found that 3 applications followed by scrub over a 25 min period can usually get some very good results on stains like that. 50/50 mix. Pressure wash~ Sometimes I have gotten dang near 100% of the stain, sometimes only 60%.

For really bad stuff I'll pretreat with a strong caustic to get topical stuff off. Then do the above for residual stain.

A little late to this but here we go. This will only work if you can prep the site before hand like the evening before. Call it the , " Moisture Test Oil Remover Technique " or MTORT. You need duct tape, plastic drop cloth, towel and degreaser or caustic. Basically you 1 soak a towel in strong degreaser mix 2 only mist the oil stain 3 cover stain with the towel 4 cover and duct tape the tarp. The plastic will prevent or slow the towel from drying allowing your degreaser to dwell and sometimes steam the surface for hours. I've done it only a few times but it works. Took two common trade secrets and applied it to pwing. The carpet cleaning hand iron towel stain removal technique and concrete moisture test = MTORT
