Im looking into more what i can do for my employees

I have 2 superstars and the rest (6 guys) are "ok"

I want to lock up my 2 main guys- I pay pretty well- but you get to a point where you can only pay so much, there is a ceiling

I give these 2 guys a paid week off + 6 paid holidays- 1 guy has a company take home van where he pays gas i cover everything else

I really want to keep these guy long term and have been mulling giving a percentage as a bonus but not sure

Would love to hear if anyone is doing this or incentives they give to employees

I think you are doing very well....you have to be careful on how much you give....I consider some of what you are doing as GIVING. I do give bonuses to main guy ever now and then...especially when we are doing well and finished a bunch of big higher paying jobs. Also pay him when it rains or he is sick. I've always felt that making sure the guys feel everything is stable is very important to them....and sometimes more importantly their families.

I saw a TED talk once that explained how almost everyone is more motivated by a chance to master something than they are by money. Do you have an advancement level they can aim for that recognizes when they've mastered the trade?

As always your responses are spot on- sometimes i need to hear this

I trust these 2 guys (and my other guys too for the most part) and want to "lock them in" long term

Just think there is only so high you can pay in terms of salary before its not beneficial to the company and looking for other ways

Probably going to look into healthcare next year and maybe a 401K plan- but these things will not be totally free to the employee

Just seeing what other guys are doing for their employees

Benefits are great for tax time rather than increasing w2 pay. employee appreciation lunches, event gatherings for their families and team building (sporting events, go karts, top golf, etc), wellness programs (gym reimbursement, etc.) Accountants are great resources to bounce ideas off of.

I like andrews idea.....give them tickets to a water park for the family or some other kind of place they can take the family and maybe also throw in a gift card for lunch they can use while at that place. You can give them insurance but after awhile the employees might want aomething out of the ordinary to feel more appreciated.
