Residential Sales

In order to drum up some business, I was considering typing up a flyer of sorts to highlight some benefits of having your property cleaned. I was going to intentionally stop at houses with buildup on siding/roofs and try and talk with them personally and hand them a flyer with my business card (or leave it at the door if no one was home). This is a relatively new type of service to my area. I was told someone did some pressure washing many moons ago, but I don't know to what extent it was done. There's a window cleaner in the area that does some of the businesses here town, but that's about it. I'm curious if it would be pushy to try and close the sale on the spot or just offer to do an estimate for them and thank them for their time. I'm not exactly the salesman type, but I'm going to have to learn and get outside my comfort zone if I want to succeed. Just wondered if anyone has done anything like this and to what extent they've seen results.

I tried the flyer route many years ago and didn't have very good success. 95% of my business now comes from my websites. If I were you I would consider having Keith at KBK Graphics do a website for you, he recently did the one for my new business and it came out great. Also, social media is a great way to get business as well.

For residential, we have success with focused marketing over shotgunning a broad list of services. Find a subdivision with primarily vinyl siding, preferably covered in algae, send them house wash deals. Older neighborhoods, with tall trees and shaded properties may respond well to concrete or paver cleaning. If this is a document for a new lead you spent money to acquire, rather than a general sales flyer, Id consider targeting information more towards sealing the deal.

Invest in a simple website - it's basically your online flyer

BOOM!!

Handing out flyers is nice- but its something you should maybe do when your doing a job already- like canvass the job site

Website is probably the best ROI for your buck - IF its done right

It gives you credibility as a legitimate contractor

Google adwords is also a suggestion if your willing to invest

I agree with everyone else. the website is the way to go. for less than 200 bucks you can have everyone within 100 miles see your phone number.

A website allows you to reach so many more people much faster than you can with fliers. you can also rank for different services and cities/surrounding communities. that way you're hitting all of your target market. the amount of people looking online is vast, too, so you'll get the most business that way, just as long as your site is well-designed and ranks at or near the top of the search results, especially on Google.

Good points. That's something that I should begin to take more seriously. I didn't think it something that many people in a rural community would use, but I bet more people using the internet for finding services than I realize.

I concur with everone else website being #1, but also look in to face book adds. They are cheap and get you exposed to a large population of home owners in your service area. Allowed me to put little effort and time into it and generates new clients almost instantly and consistantly. That is all i have advertised with..so far (been in bis 4 months now) not long enough for my experience to count for to much..haha, and have been busy all summer...even landed a few commercial accounts off of it! good luck!

Make no mistake, sales training is the end all be all... If you don't know how to communicate effectively with people, a website, insurance or the best equipment in the world won't help you.
