Nozzles

Hi guys this may seem like a dumb question or idea, but here goes. I am looking into some new machines, currently we run 5.5 GPM machines and mainly do fleet. I find this to be adequate, providing enough rinse water etc. without wasting alot of water as your moving along. The machines i am looking at are both 10 GPM I like the idea of having the capability of higher GPM for when we do commercial flat work and house washing, but i think it would be wasted on the fleets. If I were to run a smaller sized nozzle, say #6.5, would that choke out the flow and bring it down to the 5.5 GPM then just use larger nozzles when i need more flow?

I use my injector bypass with a poly ball valve on my chem line to achieve the same thing. Just have to make sure you have an unloader that can take the constant cycling and bypassing.

Okay, so you are saying that the method of using smaller sized nozzles will work the same, just need to make sure i have a good unloader in place and maybe a back-up or 2 around just in case

It will work. I use my injector as a way to reduce flow. Same concept. Not saying it is a good thing to do, but it works. I am using a giant orange spring unloader, and was told by Russ Johnson that it is a durable choice and can take a lot of cycling and bypassing. I have to change them out every 6 months though. It is all in the unloader. The pump is going to pump out what it is rated for. If the unloader fails. there will be trouble. Maybe think about using a pressure relief valve if you don't have one on already. Also there is a threshold I discovered where the unloader will constantly cycle and where it will bypass smoothly. I would use find the smallest nozzle you want to use, but make sure the unloader isn't constantly cycling. Up the size until it runs smooth. I manipulate my ball valve to increase and decrease pressure when I am rinsing. I can get about 3 gpm to come out without cycling on my 10 gpm machine. So you are probably good.
 
Alright sounds good thanks for the info! I will be sure to keep this in mind for the next machine.
