Chistmas Bonus

Mike Hughes

Former Board Administrator
What are you offering your employees as a Christmas/Holiday bonus?

I haven't made up my mind yet...........I was wondering what everyone else is doing........

Thanks.

Here's a generous offer....They will have there job after Christmas.:D

I don't have any fulltime employees and the part timers that work with me occasionally I don't even see this time of year. So i'm of no help.

If I did have a fulltime employee maybe a gift certificate to a nice Restuarant so he/she can take there significant other at your expense. They will think your the greatest while they are sipping the wine and eating good food.

We will be giving out gift certificates to the Radisson star plaza this year. $50 each towards a show, dinner, night over... whatever they want to spend it on. The season cut me a bit short so the "gift" was cut in half :)

Greg

I have two part-timers

$100 & a Turkey

all spoken like

boss's that have forgot what it's like to be an employee.
$100 per year working for the co. fulltime
1 year=$100 2 years=$200,ect....top out at $500
$50 per year for part time.
Most are $250 for the first year and a Whole paycheck every year after.[on the books]
No i dont have employee's, i am one.

With the economy being what it is today it is my understanding the Christmas bonuses are a thing of the past. If you really want to do something though. Why not just treat them to a nice lunch or dinner. I would be greatful for just that.

if were busting my butt

for you and my x-mas bounus was lunch, it would be the last lunch you had to buy me.
I topped out at $500 cash,a jacket, a watch,and a nice co. dinner.[10 years service]
My wife gets $2000.00 cash.
Thats no bull.
Plus we go to a black tie dinner with 4 hr open bar.
300 employees about 1/2 go to the party. The other 1/2 drive us home lol.
Another 3 grand in door prizes to be given away.
The owner started out with 3 taxi cabs. Now has a large limo service. All self made/with his wife.
Now he is also a personal friend along with his entire family.

Now Ron, lets step back into reality and remember we're talking about a $10 an hour job doing exterior cleaning....................

Any Bonus is always a nice thing. My job there is no bonus and working Christmas day is a great possiblity for some. I'm stuck working from Christmas Eve to Christmas morning.(Another day with no sleep..Oh Well).

Some people haven't even seen a raise in years. Maybe the workers should give some of the Business owners a Christmas Present.;)

It's not the wage... it's the company :)

When I worked as a diesel tech back in the early 90's it was for a trucking company (now Swift Transportation) that did well over 20 million a year. The wages ranged from $7 to $20 an hour and they threw one heck of a christmas party, gave out hams/turkeys, and at minumum a $250 bonus if you were there 6 or more months.

Our world is a little different :) Our gross revenue in 2002 hit about 1.2 - 1.3% of that 20 million.... thats a far cry from having the ability to financially do those kind of things. BUT as we grow and reach the next rung on the ladder you can bet I will show my appreciation my spending a little more.

Now-a-days people should simply appreciate they have a job with all of the companies going under.

Take Care,

Greg

Hello Mike,

I give a cash bonus to my guys for Christmas.

I also give a cash bonus for Extra Effort! I have done this when they least expect it!

$20 bucks for Turkey day.

Total bonus for my crew leader will end up well over $500 for the year. Lesser amounts for the other guys full & part-time.

I have given bonuses for quite awhile. I think my guys appreciate their jobs but they have grown to expect a bonus, especially at Christmas time! They try to understand slowdowns in the economy but bottom line they are looking to the employer to provide these things.

One other point, once you start you can never go back!

Clean county

We do chip in and buy the boss a present every year.
A weekend in Atlantic city with his wife.
I also buy for his son. He is also my boss.
If i had one or two guys i would spend $250 on each.
Dave Olsen-yes you can reduce or take away
People do understand when things are tuff.
My wife used to get $3000 before bin ladin screwed up traveling.
Also no party last year.
Management gave up last years x-mas $$$$ so they did'nt have to let the little guy's go. They survived with no layoff's, just some reduced hours.
Everything is back on track.

Christmas bonus:

When I worked the uniform business it was a straight $50 couple at the supermarket, period.

Now what the customers gave us more then made up for a national cheap company.

Fine bottles of wine, cash, dinner certificates, movie passes and the list goes on and on. Sure I was not your normal route uniform guy, I always did 110% and the customers knew it too!

What to give employees, it all comes down to what you can afford and what you feel comfortable with plus what are they worth to you.

Full time, part time still an employee.

It depends, and every year is different. WHen I worked for others, I never got a Christmas bonus, but I was always the highest paid guy in short order, except when I worked union, I hate working Union.
This year, it is a new pair of Gore Tex boots, and some cash. One guy got a Cell Phone, with me paying the bill, but it was more because I needed him to have a phone so I could get a hold of him, and he could get a hold of me when he was working.
I think that this year, my two most senior guys are going to get $250 bonus, One guy is leaving two days before Christmas, and the other already got his bonus. So I will have an average of about $200 a guy in christmas bonuses.

Scott
