vinyl siding problem!!!!!!!!

Looks like oxidation. Is this the south facing side?

Mike

Unfortunately, yes to both. When estimating the home, did you check for oxidation on all four sides?

Also, may we have at least a first name.

Mike

Sorry Mike my name is Justin ,no didn't check the house for oxidation..the vinyl I washed was on my own house and it turn out like that... it's kinda of a eye sore... trust me nobody in my neighborhood is going to want me to wash there house if mine looks like that...

with that hat being said if the house does have oxidation is there a different step I should have done on washing my house??

also what should I do about fixing this east side that gets a lot of sun??

Hey Justin, always check the siding for oxidation. Rub a finger on all four sides of a home and see if any chalk rubs off. When you perform this test, do it in an inconspicuous area so you don't leave a mark smack dab in the middle where it's so obvious.

Yes, you're correct, no one is going to hire you after seeing those results! With vinyl, there are solutions which can be used to help cut through the oxidation. I use "Reliable 1' which is an alkaline cleaner. Depending on the severity of the oxidation, sometimes I can simply apply a 75/25 water to Reliable 1 mix and using medium pressure, rinse it off. Other times, may need to go with a 50/50 mix and gently brush with a soft bristle brush and rinse. If you don't already have one, purchase a high quality "soft flock, full block" brush which you can attach to a threaded pole. Don't skimp on a quality brush.

With the proper house wash mix, you shouldn't need high pressure. Keep the nozzle further away from the substrate. If you do this to aluminum siding, you will most likely have to finish the entire side with up close and personal pressure washing. Never use an alkaline solution on aluminum siding unless you have a lot of experience!!! You could end up stripping the paint off!!!

Always make note of oxidation when giving an estimate and explain the situation to the customer...

Thanks for all the info I will check that cleaner out... the only thing I found online was vinyl renu which I order some of there cleaner for oxidation.. if that don't work I will try that reliable 1 after I get rid of the oxidation should I spray some kind of wax or something so it will protect it??

I don't use any waxes however, I suppose you could try one. Eventually, it will either wash off or be burned off from the sun. You won't be able to stop the oxidation however, you may slow it's progression a bit.

thanks for all the info I read on another forum of somebody ds f-13 mix on the siding and it cleared it up.. do you guy know anyone that tried that? also read of people mixing f-13 in there house wash to help clear the oxidation up while washing ..

Did you use soft wash? It looks like you used a wand with you pressure washer and it made those streaks from too much pressure. When we do vinyl we use a 90 psi air pump to apply the bleach mixture, let it dwell until it looks clean and then rinse with a garden hose or an adjustable wand.

I soft wash with my pressure washer.. I think I just got a little too close with my rinse .. next time I am going to rinse with the same nozzle I use to downstream my mix on. my next buy will be a fatboy pump intill then I will use my 5.6gpm 2500 washer and draw it down with the right nozzles

I am just glad it happen on my own house, so I can fix what I did wrong ...I would hate to do this to a customer and get called back

so what's the solution to his problem? Will f-13 take care of it? I just dealt with a similar issue.

When I moved into my house, I noticed that some parts of the house were beginning to fall apart. The kitchen was among the worst parts of the house; it had many leaks, and the floor tiles were worn out. I wanted to rebuild my kitchen, but I did not know how to start it. So, I began searching for a good contractor to provide me with construction services. For three weeks, I searched online for a good team that would be able to provide me with repairs. The team I hired also did siding works for my house. I am very delighted with their work.
