    Buffer tank on direct drive

Hey everyone I am needing some help. I picked up an AlH4240 with Cat pump for a solid price. I am putting together a trailer but am unsure if I need to run a buffer tank. I plan to have 150 ft of both Waterhouse and pressure hose. The unit is obviously direct drive and please don't tell me to return and reinvest as it's to late for that. My question is if I do require a buffer tank, how far above the pump inlet would I need to mount the tank on the trailer. The machine is. 4gpm and I am looking at a 65 gallon tank with a 2 inch outlet. Images of setups ect. Would be extremely helpful as there are not many online

In most cases, a 4gpm pump won't need a buffer tank. If you'll be working in an area which comprises mostly of submersible or jet pump systems, you may run into a supply problem.

Most direct drive units won't pull water as they usually spin to fast. As for tank elevation, a tank raised 25' above your pump inlet will yield approximately 10psi.

Since that elevation isn't practical, you will most likely need to force feed the pump with a stand alone second pump system.

You can add a 12v pump 5 or 6 gpm and 40 psi to the inlet side of the machine. That should do the trick. The 2" hose you have is not bad but won't work because your not creating psi. You need to push the water in the pump in order for it to make pressure

Thank you both for the input, however i was able to finagle the manger to take back the old unit and purchased a WS3500 belt drive Simpson unit. Once again I really appreciate the ideas.

Excellent! The belt drive is far superior to the direct drive...

since people will read this wanting real answers..
Running Direct Drive pumps is just like any other equipment management.. it's ALL about making reliability Possible..
Plumbing a pump with dual feed lines is the BEST possibility for the pump to NOT have water supply problems.
..aka.. cavitation, which destroys seals, unloaders and keyShafts.
And don't forget to REMOVE the Thermal Relief Valve on your pump.. they suck air !

Have a direct drive pump on my trailer that I've been running 8 yrs. no problems. Start the machine at half throttle till it primes.
