I had a customer that did a Hollywood Video sign. The store had a real bad Pigeon problem. So the store manager called out a pest control company to fix the problem. The pest control Company put a real thick layer of sticky glue they use to catch rats with on the sign. The concept was the sticky glue would get on their feet and they would not like it and they would stop using the sign as a perch. Well that idea went wrong real quick. The health dept and animal activists were real upset when a customer called. The glue was getting on their feet and feathers and when the birds tried to get it off their beaks were getting glued shut and some of them got stuck on the sign and died of starvation. Birds were laying on the ground with glue all over them some dead and some still kicking around the best they could. So the video store called out a power washer to remove the Glue and the poo. He went out to the job and he was fighting off reporters and activists left and right. The pressure washer 5gpm @3500psi wouldn't touch the glue. So he tried a turbo nozzle. Nope that didn't work either. He went to the paint store near there and bought a scraper. That worked to get the bulk of it off then he used Lacquer thinner to get the rest of it off. The poo came of real easy with hot water and a turbo nozzle.

PIGEON POO

THE BEST THING FOR "THE THREE STOOGES" PEST CONTROL COMPANY TO DO WAS TO PLACE A TIGHTLY STRUNG METAL WIRE SUSPENDED ABOUT 2" ON TOP OF THE SIGN. THE WIRE IS TOO THIN FOR THE BIRDS TO EITHER GRAB WITH THEIR FEET OR BALANCE ON. BUT AS FAR AS CLEANING GOES, THANKS FOR THE YUCKEY TIP :)

PEGION POO

MY WIFE JUST REMINDED ME THAT THE EASIEST WAY TO DISCOURAGE MOST BIRDS, SQUIRRELS & SOME OTHER PESTS IS TO SIMPLY POST A CERAMIC OWL ON TOP OF THE SIGN. THIS WORKS ON ROOFS,DECKS,OR ANY OTHER PLACE WHERE CERTAIN ANIMALS/BIRDS AREN'T WELCOME.
OWLS ARE FEARED PREDITORS.

The owl only works until the squirrels notice that it never moves, then it is ignored. We find what works best is the .177 air rifle by the back door, especially if the squirrel expires where the other squirrels can see it. If the nasty little tree rats get into the bird food, stir in some cayenne pepper.

Douglas, You suprised me with that one!

Plastic spike strips work well. They try to land once and never again. Call it Barb Wire for birds, and the mice and rats can not walk it either.

The Owl thing might work for a day or two and then it is laughed at by the other animals. I have seen the birds perching on the fake owl and eventually a squirrel attacked it and hollowed it out and made it his new home until my neighbor got up there and threw it away. I would always look for good ways to deter the birds but the fake Owls, snakes and even fake Hawks work only for a short time. I had a call to clean out some rain gutters at a store and it had the "Bird X" metal spikes all around the gutters but the pigeons still made nests there and some even bent the thin wire spikes because they were getting in the way. Most of the birds just went higher and perched on the roof at the top by the sign and really made bad messes that run down the metal roof and when you drive up you can see it from far away. I saw on "Dirty Jobs" on tv the other night a crew was installing electrical shock strips to keep the birds away and it had like 10,000 volts. They said that the birds and their poo had like 60 different bacteria or viruses or something else that would really make you sick or die. These guys were spraying all the poo with some chemical and then cleaning it up along with the dead animals and other stuff.

The sticky stuff is called HOT FEET. it does not kill birds.....its meant to burn there feet. it works well.

My guess wiz is that he used another product called avitrol. its a poison that attacks the central nervous system of the animal that eats it. its usally put on corn or some other desireable food. the pigeons would have had to been bated first.

Pigeons are more teritorial than most. they are flying rats if you ask me.

In arizona we have millions, i make a good living and they keep me with plenty of work.

bless those flying rats.

that pest control guy was and idiot using both chemicals.

the video store should have been warned about the PR and have been on top of removing the dead birds.

The nasty little suckers also carry about 60 diseases.Coming in contact with their poop can make you very sick.
