Ikeca Why?

I have asked Mike to add this section so that we could attempt to keep new, past and present IKECA member advised on what is new.

First off this organization is not for everyone however it does offer to the professional hood cleaner a way to network, new concepts, fellowship and a way become IKECA Certified.

The organization is made up of all sizes of companies from around the world. These companies have only one focus and that is the professional cleaning of exhaust systems. We don't service residential cleaning, wood decks, gutters, and trucks.

This group has several members on the NFPA Technical Committee and are always seeking solutions to problems within this industry.

We have several certification programs that deal with all aspects of the exhaust cleaning industry. This covers inspection CESI,Operational Service CECS and on site managers PECT(Professional Exhaust Cleaning Tech). The on site crew manger test is on line and is geared to crew leader-cost $75.

At the last meeting in Chicago in 03 some of the subject that was covered in depth were Vertical Riser Cleaning, Ladder Safety By Werner Ladder and Cleaning Precipitators and other vindors and exhibits.

A marketwise CD was developed for the members that could be customized for the members. This tool can be used for sales calls, AHJ's or any customer that needs that little extra.

Another issue that was developed at the show was for this group of cleaner to develop a IKECA Manual for cleaners. Better than 50 members are developing a indepth manual. We know that there are other manuals, but we felt that we should have our own develped by the members. The cost would be free to the membership and $250 (?) for those on the outside. The manual will be on the computer and updated as events change. A nice addition will be pictures covering the discussed chapter.

Another change is dues for members that service is less than $300m dues are $295

We feel this will become the industry standard once it becomes public.

We wecome any comments or concers. You tell us how we can welcome you to our group.

:)

This sounds like a great idea from a man I know who has been in the Hood Cleaning business for sometime,
Its nice to see a fellow vetran doing something worth while and on the (up and up).
There are a few people out there offering some shady training-from non veterans and non professionals- Who should not be associated with. Great idea David! Cant wait to see what you have put together. Mtngoat

David, I'm glad you are doing this for everyone. If I can help, as always call me.

Grant

Everyone take the time and go to ikeca.com and look at the new Exhaust Cleaning Manual. Put together by people who are cleaning hoods-day in and day out. Plus its free.

David, Thank you for taking time out to speak to me over the phone. Mtngoat

I did't know that it was the one and only MTGOAT-call me anytime?

In Replying to Ron M's post about Who is certified (properly trained) I think it would be beneficial to myself and to the businesses I service to join IKECA.
After all. I dont know everything about this business.
Networking with others in the same field will be a good learning experience.
Mtngoat.

Anyone going to New Orleans?

You and your Cooper could make it in a day or two together with lane shifting speeds. I plan to go to the next show in Cowboy land.

I need to wait until my ticket from my las vegas trip clears off my record before I try for Louisiana in two days!

Anyone planning to attend the Ikeca convention in Texas this October?

Ikeca

I was there at the IKECA convention in OCT. Very professional atmosphere along with some very interesting Trade show displays. Was very nice meeting some of the larger companies out there, helped a lot boosting our desire to grow. One day I was looking forward in joining IKECA but at the current time the membership requirements are a little high for the family owned and operated business, I guess the one of the 3 requirements that hurt the most was the mandatory Workmans Comp Insurance. I had Texas Workmans Comp for 6 or so years here in Texas with my past business and really have no desire in going back. Guess we are lucky since in Texas it’s not a mandatory to carry it. But me and the wife enjoyed the IKECA convention very much, I agree for any serious KEC’s that meets there requirements that it’s a great organization to be in.

And HELLO, Yes I’m new to the board :) . Been reading here for a week or so and decided to sign up.

Not Sure

Bryan, how did you find us?

Sorry Ron, but I’m unsure. I read and visit so many sites I could not give a honest answer to that question. I noticed a little more activity here on KEC and bookmarked it. Just like reading the gossip of the day to day greasers out there. :)

If a state does not require that you have workers comp. then IKECA can’t require it. I think that I am correct. If you have employees why would you not want to have workers comp? It only protects you.

My comp rate is 30%($30 for each $100) of payroll-I hate workers comp. I just pass the rate along. Just move out west and you will see a real workers comp problem.

The dues are the same as PWNA-but the focus is only in what matters-hood systems.
