Well, it happened....

One Call Power

State Farm has cancelled us due to the type of business we are. They told me per phone conversation that deck restoration was the culprit. If we drop this from our services, they would be able to reinstate us at a later date. Why ? No one knows the real answer, so here we are come May 1st, no longer insured. I guess its time to call Joe Walters.... We have been with State Farm since 1996 on business insurance and how in the world with no claims do they cancell us ?

After 8 years with the same insurance company with 0 claims I have been informed we are not going to be renewed this year. I then proceeded to shop around and found it impossible to get coverage. It seems that the insurers are not interested in the pressure washing business. When I asked the brokers why, they told me that the pressure washing industry has had a lot of losses. Most of these were to residential properties on roofs and siding. I ended up using Walters but I would have preferred an agent that wasn't 3,000 miles away.

I was curious if this was unique to my state or if it is happening to others as well. I see by some of the previous posts others are experiecing this to some degree, I was wondering if it is still happening and are your rates increasing because of the untrained business operators out there?

In Mississippi we are insured for the fire inspections, fire systems, and vent hood cleanings thru Nationwide Insurance.. They have us listed as a fire equipment inspector and supplier as well as a janitorial service for the hood cleanings.

1 million liability for get this $750.00 per year..

Got to love Nationwide ( There on my side)

John,

On other posts you have published what you earn and what you do. N'wide is primarily a personal lines carrier - commercial lines is not their major thrust. If they were to learn you handle caustics, use employees, inspect and tag suppression systems, disassemble and service roof equipment, etc - you would get a huge surprise. If there is a 'non-can' law in your state they would then 'manuscript' a policy form especially for you. I would predict annual premium would go from the $700 range to the $100,000 plus range. I know firsthand one who had this happen, and he had to pay it up front lump sum. In addition they probably have policy stipulations to allow them to recapture back premium for the 14 years you have been in business. Don't take offense - just a word of caution - do what you will.

Colony Insurance will insure pressure washing & building restoration. They're out of Virginia and I know they write in NC...they may be an option. I got a quote from Joe Walters the other day just out of curiousity....they actually seem to be a little lower than what we're paying but we have a large account that has some kind of nut running the insurance requirements. Had to go with a company that they approved.

Just FYI,

Celeste
