Changing pump for more GPM's

Clean County PW

Hey Wiz,

I have a 4000psi cold water PW that pumps 4gpm. This PW has an 18hp Honda engine. I would like to change the pump to put out around 6gpm. With an engine of this size how high can I go with the gpm's. This PW is my only direct drive unit that I own. THe other ones are all Belt driven.

One more fast question about this PW. I have it set down to 3000psi. Is this harmful to this PW. The reason why I set it down to 3000psi is because my other PW are 3000psi and it is easier for me to have them at all the same psi. Thanks for any comments on these questions.

For a direct drive unit you can get 6 gpm @ 2900 psi with the 18 hp available, theoretically.

There are no direct coupled pumps readily available to give you that; most likely you could find a maximum 5.5 @ 3000.

If you use a gear reduction drive then you will have access to large frame pumps that will draw water/soap better and last longer.

Hope this helps? Cheers.
