My machines on fire!!!!!!

Hey Wiz,

I have a older Hotsy 4.5 gpm 2500 psi hotwater machine.

The other day, it shot flames out the stack. Now being a firefighter I didn't sweat too much. I shut the machine off, checked everything out, started back up and went to washing.

I have noticed that from time to time it will smoke like crazy for a while then go back to normal.

What could be up with this. BTW, I usually burn diesal in it. If you need more info let me know.

Thanks

Greg

Check first for soot build up then electrode settings then change the burner nozzle.

Hey Wiz,

Thanks for the input. After I submitted the post I found the earlier post mentioning the smoking and soot build up. But I still had no idea about the fire.

I will definately check out the things you mentioned. So are the flames due to a build up of fuel that finally ignites? It would make sense if so.

Thanks for the help

Greg

Big Dog. I once seen a machine smoke and flame out for hours, the burner nozzle dumped raw fuel into the bottom of a horizontal burner, the burner had some batten type of insulation in the bottom and when it ignited it took hours to burn it self out. It was only funny because it wasn't mine. check that your nozzle is vaporising the fuel. also check your air mixture. GOOD LUCK.
P.S Keep a Fire Extinguisher Handy!

Fire

My hotsy sounded like the space shuttle the other day, and smoked like it too. I took it in and was told that it probably started without lighting. Sending the fuel into the bottom of the coils and when it relighted it was burning that raw fuel in the chamber. They changed the nozel and cleaned the electrodes. Working good so far but not as hot as before.

A larger fuel nozzle or a fuel and air adjustment would fix the heat problem!
