Using Pool Pump For Spraying?

I have been lurking for a while and finally decided to post a question. I have been in business (part time) for two years and concentrate mostly on roof cleaning. I have been using a 12 volt sure-flo pump to spray the roofs. I am now ready to upgrade to a regular pump and a larger chemical tank to make things go alot faster. Currently I turn down alot of jobs because I have to walk the entire roof with the small pump and pitch is a problem. I would like to be able to spray chemical in a wide pattern for at least 20-30 feet. Absolute pressure is not a concern.

Would anyone have a recommendation on size of pump, kind of pump and plumbing to make this work??? Of course when I was not asking for the chemical, the pump would have to automatically shut off as well.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.........

Your Shur Flo will work fine and give adequate volume if you set it up a little differently than most people typically do.

If you are using Chlorine, you can set it up so that you are getting about 1 gallon/minute coming out at the tip and this is usually more than enough volume to cover a roof quickly without creating the runoff that will kill everything in sight.

If you want to upgrade to a higher volume pump, you can look for a gas powered diaghram pump. We use UDOR pumps that operate at 10.5 GPM, but there are others out there that operate at lower volumes and might be more appropriate for you.

If you do to a pest control or agricultural supply house, pick up a pump tha is stainless steel & neopreone throughout. Roller pumps are a little less expensive, but typically do not hold up to any type of harsh chemical for very long.

I heard he was going out of business awhile back and went by and looked at his trailer set-up. Nice guy, but his set-up was a shurflo and he didn't have anything I needed. I believe he hurt his back so he got out of washing.
