Roof wash additives

What kind of additives do you add to your roof mix, chlorine, soaps, tsp, or oxisheen (sp?) which supposedly strenghtens the chlorine. Florida contractor.

In most cases, we'll go with chlorine/water only. If it's a steep pitch, we'll add a surfactant for some added suds and 'cling.' Some prefer to add TSP. I've heard of a few going the OxiClean route as well.

chlorine/water 50/50 with a little degreaser added for suds and cling.

what do i use?

i add tsp and/or laundry detergent. on the tsp box it says to that it helps the bleach to stick when using.

good luck,

Custom Built Cleaners for Roofs.

Our approach to Roof Cleaning chemicals is purpose built formulas, but at a cost that makes them a real option. Additionally, we now offer a Oxygen based cleaner that is over 80% Sodium Percarbonate (compare to store bought oxy cleaners that are at most 20% active ingredient).

Cleaner Today offers both Roof QSE (Sodium Hydroxide based fast and furious cleaner) and Roof OX (Sodium Percarbonate / Oxygen based non-toxic cleaner).

Both formulas include a proprietary blend of surfactants, and other detergents to power through roof cleaning.

Pricing at Cleaner Today becomes heavily discounted for contractors, and doesn't require the purchase of a 'distributorship'.

An option for affiliates even allows you revenue sharing for customers who purchase through your affiliate link, giving you a home on the web, and a source for future jobs.

At Cleaner Today the belief is that cleaner neighborhoods improve property values which makes everyone a winner.

has anyone tried this roof ox and can testify to how it works? all of the oxy based products i have ever used work but require more than just a garden hose rinse to remove. how much pressure is needed to remove the roof ox brand? thanks for the info.

The clean today site states there has been a increase in requests for roof cleanings due to the Bird Flu movie. Have any of you seen this increase?

Hello Kory!
We sure clean a LOT of roofs in Apollo Beach with Bird you know what on em, LOL
The bird droppings are very acidic, and w/o pressure, we have to spray em with strong stuff to get rid of em.
The acid counter acts the Chlorine.
One roof was so bad that we got up with a garden hose, and rinsed the stuff off best we could first, then sprayed it.
It is also quite slick, and if you fall, it's a crappy deal, LOL

The frogs on the roof are another matter.
I remember the first roof I ever did here in Florida{I learned in Seattle in the 70's as a roofer}
I sprayed across a vent pipe, and it "exploded" with Frogs popping out of there like bottle rockets.

When this happens we yell "Hot Frog" and rinsing them off becomes job one.

Often, the frogs jump into a chlorine flooded gutter, and then they are doomed, no matter what.

I have grossed several thousand dollars in a day before, but had my day completely ruined by a dying Frog, writhing in agony because of me.

We wish!
As one of Tampa's older roof cleaning companies, if it were true, you would think we would hear it ?

We haven't heard word one about it, from any customer, period.
We also clean roofs all the time for homeowners who bought these "do it yourself" products off the Internet.

If it was THAT easy guys, we would be out of business long ago.

My advice to all my fellow roof cleaners, just keep on keeping on, using what we use, good old Chlorine/TSP and water.

We have ARMA behind us, and these are the ONLY chemicals actually suggested to clean shingle roofs.

Not to worry about "voiding" someone's Termite warranty either.

That was an untruth spread years ago by American Roof Brite, and referred to Durasban.
Durasban is not used any longer.
Even if it was, termite protection is usually applied very close to the house, certainly not in the drip line.
I guess these people never heard of soffits ?

Termites dont like sodium hypochlorite either, kinda eats em up, and stings their "eyes" and antennae.

I have actually taken soil with chlorine in it, and watched termites.
They hate it, and leave the effected area.

I did this in my kids ant farm, and the Termites tried their best to get out of there.

Maybe us roof cleaners should charge more for our run off, LOL

Chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) is the best "Fast and Furious" roof cleaning chemical I know of. And it isn't proprietary! I don't need a discount, and I can pick it up locally in large tanks! And I don't have to worry about putting degreasers on an oil based roofing product!!!
