liquid solenoids?

Does anyone know if a 24v ac solenoid will work on 12 v dc? Looking into remote control systems and was just curios.

I can run the solenoids at 24ac with an adapter off my generator but would be nice if I could just use 12v dc instead..

Thanks

You opened up an intresting subject.
What is the coil rated at?
24vac right?
You want to use it on 12vdc right?
Do you know what the difference is?
AC is alternating current and, DC is direct current.
24volts AC goes from +12v to zero then below zero to -12v over and over again 60 times per second then they just add the two together 12 + 12 = 24.
DC goes to +12 volts and stays constant untill the battery wears down.
Now here is the confusing part I have coils that are rated for both.
Try it on 12vdc and I'm willing to bet it will work.
They do however sell 12v coils in the Grainger catalog.

I already made one that works. I used a remote starter that was designed for a car. It gets a bit more complicated than you think it would however it can be done.

Remote Control

Hey Wiz,

Yea the remote starter was the first thing I thought of to use. But I'm still trying to decide what I want to control.

I actually have 6 chemical tanks on my rig but I probably only ever use but 2 of them on any given job. I guess I could rig up some type of switch panel to select which two tanks I want to control.

But what about the pump and burner on my rig. I saw mention somewhere that someone was turning the pump on and off with something.

Any ideas on that?

There are several ways to accomplish this. You can use extra relays that latch for example or a remote that has several buttons to control different items. You have to know alot about how these things work or you will get lost real quick. The one I had only had two buttons for controls. I used an auxillery relay to control the burner and the internal relays to start the engine and kill the engine. It was great for about 200 feet at the most but who has a hose much longer than that?

Are there some sort of plumbing manifolds on the remote control units? What comes to mind is a lawn irrigation system with the piping manifold and electrically controlled valves. How do you control which chems come out?

Use 12 volt solenoids. Graingers has them . The sprinkler idea isn't bad haven't tryed that one yet. Don't know if they will handle the chemicals. Plastic is usually great at chemical resistance.
