Phil,
What do you think about the idea of cleaning with foam? Potentially, we can do a better job on horizontal runs. Right now horizontal runs are a problem because of either, no access panels or miniature panels.

On Foam

This is another evolving technology that will doubtless provide some benefits (and pitfalls) to the exhaust cleaning industry.

If (and it is one of the biggest “if’s” in this field) an exhaust system is cleaned on a regular basis, then foam could be a great asset to improving the efficiency and speed of the cleaning.

To date, I have not heard where the foaming technique was effective on heavy (irregularly cleaned) grease. So this is an application issue. But on light (or normal frequency) grease, it seems to have a place. All of this keeps coming back to the most basic of all issues – that of getting the restaurants to allow you to clean the system before it is heavily contaminated.

There are however a number of issues and circumstances where the use of foam will be questionable. For example, what effect (if any) will the foam have on the roof or roof equipment? If the ducts are too long, what efficiency will be lost and not checked?

Foam, like so many other things in this field, can (and probably will be) misused. Claims will be made, illusions created, shortcuts taken. However in the hands of responsible cleaners this practice will have advantages.
