Steve,

Thanks for the question and sorry I am just getting back to you. Wood restoration is not something you will learn overnite but you will build information as you go to hone your skill. With that in mind their are a few good rules to follow. One, is that the end result will only be as good as the preperation that is put into the job(Examples would be proper chems and cleaners, dwell times, loose boards and repairs, sanding, etc.). Another is to get a good working knowledge of the chemicals and when to use them and in what situation. You would not use a stripper on new wood, you would not use a cleaner to strip off an existing finish, and you should NEVER raise the pressure on a machine and use the pressure only to remove a finish.

With that in mind you will need a cleaner for new or weathered wood, you will need at least one or possibly two strippers for existing finishes, and you will need a brightener to bring back the natural color of the wood and to neutralize the cleaner or stripper. I recommend that you use a brightener/neutralizer after cleaning or stripping of wood. There are many vendors affiliated with this board that sell great products. Another idea is to find a chemical company in your area that will have these and other supplies you may need. They can also act as a primary or secondary supplier as needed. Another great thing about a local vendor is that many will take the time to educate and help you face to face. I hope this helps and feel free to contact me directly as you have more questions, Good Luck!
