Intellihood System *help*

Phil,

I have seen your replies many times throughout the years, always impressed. I wonder though, how did you gain such wisdom ??? I'm, at least I think, much your elder and been a greaser for many years, so I ask " when is MY WISDOM going surface ?

My dilemma is ; I've had a large institutional account for about 12 years, never any problems until now. The semi-annual servicing was to take place yesterday, my crew left on the 80 mi. (one way) trip to do the job only to return a couple of hours later stating they could not do the cleaning. This Univ. kitchen has 12 -24'x4' hoods each of which has been up-dated with the Intellihood systems from Melinkcorp within the past few weeks. The Univ.
Maintenance guru and the kitchen Operations Administer were present when my crew arrived But neither knew ANYTHING about the new system, nor whom I should contact .... The crew deadheaded back to the shop, stating that (my son) there was no way he could see to keep the water, etc out of those controls, sensors, etc.

Have you encountered these systems and if so how did you approach protecting the equipment from water and chems. By the way these are self wash hoods ... However the self wash system has NEVER been activated (used) since instillation 20 yrs ago?

I know I got quite long, but I sincerely thank you for any input, or re-direct, you may have.

They SHOULD be sealed. The only thing we do with those systems is to bag the sensors at each end of the hood that measures the smoke to gauage the level the fan should run at. Other than that clean it like a regular system. if the waterwash or self clean feature is not working or is not being used definately document that on your invoice.

As a favor to Ron I am answering this. We are too busy educating those that want to learn and trying to defend (most of the time) exhaust cleaners from the insurance claims that are increasing.

Your question is best asked to Rory Wilson and/or Jim Roberts. Doing so will surely elevate your "wisdom."

Thanks Grant.
For grease exhaust cleaning questions these are the guys to go to.
If you want to protect yourself from fire liability, you might want to listen to what I have been trying to say for years. In the last 8 weeks we have received 7 new cases regarding fires. 4 of them involve cleaners. So don't look good. If you have a fire we can only strongly suggest you get in touch with us very early (like while there is still smoke!) I'll try to come back from time to time to keep you all posted.
Lastly we have now launched an online training program for understanding NFPA 96 and Fire Inspections. This one is primarily for Canada, but is good for all. We will shortly be launch what we are calling a "Universal Online" program for all inspectors regardless of the Fire Code in their area. Cleaners will find this a great help in educating the fire field. It is open to all to take.

If you want to broaden your knowledge of the industry and give yourself extra tools-this is the program for you. Phil’s program gives you everything and more. It is well designed and balanced for all sizes of operations. I highly recommend his program.
