T-1

Is anyone using T-1 service? and if you are, are you happy with your carrier?

Being new to the world of high speed-what is T-1.

David T1 is a 1.55 Mbps dedicated internet connection. I cannot get cable to my office unless i am willing to give away $60,000.00 then I can have highspeed for 54.95 a month. T1 is a no installation charge $329 -$389 solution that will allow me to "get more work done online"

My office is about three miles from Los Angeles International Airport!

It is a business district, and none of the business owners want to be the first and pay 60k to string cable in. If my neighbor business were to pay the 60k I could wait a week after it is installed and I could order cable for $55 a month with no hook up charge. My neighbors are nice...but not that nice!

Have you considered satellite broadband? I've heard good and bad things about it, just like everything else, but if you can put a dish on the roof with southern access, you should be OK.
T-1 seems like overkill unless you have a large network with alot of employees on the internet constantly. Or you host your own web server with alot of traffic. If you choose the T-1 option, does anyone in your area offer shared T-1 access? That way you basically split the cost and still get the benefit of the huge bandwidth of a T-1. It's a little more complicated than that, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Satellite download is great but upload is too slow since it still uses dial/up dsl methodology. For an upcoming project I need some real upload capacity. Fractional T1 (half speed) is unfortunately only about a 15% savings over full T1. So, paying the additional money ($55/ month) for Full T1 make more sense.
