Advertising and Promotion Ideas

Roof Cleaning is a great business.
Unfortunately, it is a service that must be sold.
It is far easier to sell pressure washing.
People will clean their home and driveway in my experience before their roof.
Many are on apathy about their roof, and mistakenly believe that "nothing can be done".

You MUST change this belief, or you will not be successful in roof cleaning.
Back 15 years ago when I started, roof cleaning was a hard sell, even in Florida.

In a new market, you need demo homes with yard signs.
I would get up early on a weekend Sat or Sunday, and drive around nice area's.
When I saw people outside, I would stop.
Armed with my portfolio, I tried to get them to let me do a free, no obligation demo.
I told them I was looking to work in this area, and needed "showcase" houses.
IF they agreed to let me clean their roof, and place a sign, I would give them an additional discount.

I had NO money for ads, flyers, etc, etc, etc.
I did it the old fashioned way, I talked to people.

Post cards are the best mail piece, people actually SEE them.

Ads are ok, IF there is an existing market ?
And ONLY IF a lot aren't already advertising.

If the market does not exist, you have to develop it.

And, that means a LOT of hard work, out beating the bushes.

But it will be worth it, in the long run.
It takes about 5 years to really get established.
Until then, ya gotta work hard.

But ONE day, you will be able to kick back, and your business will grow and grow as word of mouth takes over.

Great info! Wish I'd found this thread back in May!

We need to have a Advertising Session here on PWI
I'm having trouble of getting the message out about the roof cleaning we offer. I have very little competition in my area and tons of dirty roofs, just no one buying in on the concept. I have made flyers ( i made color postcard size flyers and I am hand delevering them i.e. knocking on the door, when I cold call to residences) and have passed out about 200-300 and made alot of cold business calls to professionals with very minimal results. Here's my question, when it comes to roof cleaning what is the most effective form of advertising that is working for you? Anyone have a yellow pages ad? I signed up for one last week and it will start the first of the year and I have even thought about tv commericals. There are a ton of dirty roofs, but having a hard time of sellling the idea even with photos and my sales pitch. maybe my flyers are wrong? Are you guys using professional flyers or just homemade ones? I am also working on a good web site thanks to the advice of Russ and I am using some sales techniques that Chris told me to use, but it is hard to use them when no one is buying the idea in the first place lol. Any one use trade shows or other forms of self-advertising with good results? Just looking for the best avenue to promote the roof cleaning!!!!
:) Any help or other ideas are welcome....
