$$$ Why Fleets $$$

I am going backwards in a way right now. I went from doing car lots, then car lots and fleets, then fleets and flat work. Now I am back to getting back into car lots and some fleets.

Fleets are good if you have reliable employee's, but they are not for everybody. I don't do any fleets that are regular, I don't chase work either though. One of the local guys who does fleets majority of the time almost went under last winter due to every weekend it got to 10`F for 3 months. Most contracts around here for fleets are if it's warm enough you can work, if it's below a certain temp you don't clean and you don't get paid.

You need to have a bit of OCD to do fleets.....

I guess I'm not trying to be sarcastic or a smart ass... but wouldn't you agree we're in the business of being OCD? Where we clean stuff up BECAUSE we do the little details? lol

Curious to know what makes you say that though.

That's the reason Luis. I had a carpet cleaner tell me once that the guys that are successful in that business have a bit of ocd which is what gets the high end work done properly. The inability to leave something not done properly seem to be the ones who get the repeat work.

And it was kinda just a joke...

Got you. Sometimes my ignorance or lack of sense of humor kicks in... haha

But no, you're absolutely right. I think with any work we do in this industry, the customer has to be "WOWED", every time.

I just turned a job that would be about $9,000 a week. The previous contractor just stopped showing up. I am getting lazy and like my weekends. By the way, it is a fleet I have done before.

Scott- very true about weekends

I know youve had issues with your workforce-Cant have your guys just go do it?

Two reasons, only one of my guys has ever done fleets, and I only have one trailer set up that could wash trucks. Both easily changeable, I know, but also, every one of my guys already works forty hours a week. I hate paying over time, unless I am being compensated for it.

We just started washing fleets a couple of months ago. The biggest hurdle for me was finding what the current market is here. I quickly found out that the companies washing here were charging half of what i was trying to start out at and they were doing crappy work. I have done demos for these companies and even though my work has been alot better and i adjusted my price to be competitive but still higher, in the end they were just after the lowest dollar. We will see how long that holds out.

This is why I don't chase them, too many guys in this pool already and quality is not exactly high on the agenda. Where are my heavy equipment guys all want quality and know its not something generally done with speed. I do trucks, only one set by the unit, other is by the hour and that is it. I am not working tomorrow, not something I could do if I had a bunch of fleets!
