New organization, FOCUS

I have an interest in the thing, which is hard to believe in itself (to me) but I also have some major concerns and skepticism about a group of people that were heavily involved (at one time or another) with another org that has never done much other than flounder around and cost it's members money with little to no return or benefit to them. If they couldn't handle an errant board member or two, why should anyone believe that they're capable of launching and operating an organization on a national level anyway?

Now that I've gotten that off my chest and on the table, in what capacity might I be able to help? I'm an outsider generally speaking of our industry orgs but that might be a good thing for the future too. I'm open to lending a hand, but will under no uncertain terms sit around and be told to keep quiet while all the former, disgruntled members of another decrepit org try to steer the boat in their own selfish directions and no where else. That's already happened (and still happening apparently) elsewhere. It didn't work then and it won't work again.

If I can help, let me know. If not, I suppose all the narrow minds will keep telling me how narrow-minded I'm supposed to be. ;)

Don and everyone,
Your help would be welcomed.

I want to say a few things here. There have been many PWNA BOD's in the past who were...how can I put this....shut down...because they did not agree with everything being done at the time. These are hard working good solid business people who can help. It is not fair to say hey everyone BUT former PWNA people are welcome to do this. That's just silly. If you think about it, if someone is likely to join an org to begin with, this may well appeal to them again.

Also we are nowhere near forming a BOD yet. And not one single former PWNA BOD (including me) has said they want a BOD seat on the new org. Not ONE. What you do have is poeple who are willing to help, to lend a hand where they are able, to give advice - many in an advisory capacity. Is this bad? No. Will this org succeed? Well, how much do we ALL want it to succeed? How many of us will put down the stones - stop pelting the glass house - and help to build this.

I'm going to set up a thread on TGS in the org area. Add to it if you want to help, and you will be added to the email list, and you will get access to the Founder's area, for the purpose of WORKING. Please be honest and committ only what you can. No one person should be a workhorse. If you have ideas that you want to share, write them up and lay them out - propose them.

I'm going to say here what I said in PA. You have to take your first steps first. We have to get the little things...the name....the mission...the bylaws...the articles and paperwork establishing the org - that all has to be nailed down first. We also have to establish both short and long term goals, with milestone markers along the way of items that need to be accomplished. We will need multiple committees to work on various tasks. Look at your own skill sets and see where your strengths are and what you are comfortable doing to help with this....next, realistically think about how much TIME per week or month you can donate to this.

No one is going off half cocked. We are all working on the first step, not the 50th one. And we need all the bodies we can get....

Wanna help?
Beth

Beth,

I think this is a noble initiative on your part and I believe you are sincere in your open offer for anyone to help. I have many good ideas and a lot of free time this winter, but here is my delimma.

I hope that Jack and I are able to offer education to the new organization's members. It would be really cool to offer our Power Washing and Wood Restoration class in addition to a new curriculum that we are currently developing.

You know the history as well as I do. This is the problem with many different folks being able to participate. We are making a genuine effort to avoid being labled the "alliance trade services" conflict of the new org. We strive to avoid any avenue or situation in the planning and operation of the new org that will create an actual or percieved conflict of interest as ammunition for the skeptics to fire with. You and I have both acknowledged these conflicts in the old org at one time or another.

Again thanks for the invitation for all of us to join. If for some reason we dismantle Contractor Education Services, I will call for a job :)

Mathew,
Do you have suggestions on how the new org might fairly choose among or between the various courses offered by different parties? I feel that it would be important to do this right, and to be fair to all in the process....and to give them the proper consideration....however I regret that we are a ways away from classes...so keep working on the new ones you are planning.

Thank you for chiming in!

Beth

Hold up - please do not compare the small networking plan that I have proposed to the contractors in the Carolinas to what the new org is cooking. It IS different. I'm not trying to wrangle in an entire country - if the model is adopted by other small networks - great - but by no means is what I'm doing the same on any level as this new org thing.

Celeste

Celeste , I don't think anyone can say that. I do know that many are now talking about arranging something like your talking about.

Why would we need another national org.

We have TGP PWI AND PTS.... the only thing thats beats that for the money would be a local ran local controled association.

That statement is so true, They resigned!!!!! that means they quit!!! guit because they couldnt take the heat or because they couldnt play ball.

Why would anyone follow anyone who couldnt control themselves or other proffessionals.

This is not and attack but perhaps the truth many like Don pointed out may not even know.

Two excutive BOD members......???????

Raise the money and hire a pro to run and manage the org. No person in this line of work contractor or dist has the time its needed.

I will not be a part of a circus act.

re-think and start a regional chapter, get the volinteers from the area and start from there. rally the support and the money, down the raod you can get the national thing together.

I have Arizona covered, I will support it and i knwo whats it needs. Now just tell me when to start. I may have a couple other volinteers from a few other states.

Wheres the MONEY$$$$$$???????????

Beth, thats great, you asked for help. I never was contacted by anyone about helping.

I stand ready for the person who has the plan to fund local areas independantly and run local until they are strong.

Why send my money for a wood org to the east coast...

WOW, this is a great turkey day. my kid is calling me to play RISK. GOOD luck truly and i wish you all the success. Dont call it a national org. I'm not even sure the PWNA actually meets the definition.

Nationals a large word, truly to be a national or you need members nationwide. coast to coast and it requires so many from each to use that.

Thanks... If I were to offer suggestions on fair selection or the process, that would be a conflict... I can not give input to the process in anyway, shape or form... again.. I don't want history to repeat itsself , but thankls for asking anyway :)

Still in the "wrong" pockets.

And whose pockets are those? There is no org - yet - thusly no bank account - yet - and no monies have exchanged hands....so where...are these wrong pockets that you speak of...specifically? Or all of us who would volunteer our time be up to something we ought not be? Does this statement apply to anyone with an organized effort? Can you please clarify your statement?

Beth

What is the course? What is it that you guys are trying to achieve with this organization?

That statement is so true, They resigned!!!!! that means they quit!!! guit because they couldnt take the heat or because they couldnt play ball.

This is just slander, those guys resigned for very valid reasons, one of them being that the people running this "non profit" organization refused to open the books to it's members.

These guys spent countless hours away from their families to forward the intentions of that organization on their own dimes, and what do they get in return?

Brian and Cujo worked their butts off to give forward progress to the PWNA, I think they deserve a little more credit than this.

Chris, what guys are we talking about?

Over my 8 years many have quit or resigned. So let me recap what your taking out of context. They resigned for reasons? what reasons i dont care. they resigned of quit. Wont follow anyone into a new org that quit and old one. thats my opionion of the matter.

Never Mentioned your friend Brian or Cujo. Dont know them, i was talking about a freind of mine. He and i both worked hard and i asked him to stick it out. your way off track...

The Million dollar question!! There really needs to be a business plan in place so questions like the above can be answered. Since right now everything is in the discussion phase and nothing has been ironed out yet there is no guideline to follow for people who may be interested in this new potential organization. Anyone who wants to volunteer to help with ideas etc. please feel free to do so.

I could say the words "Recognition, Education and Accountability" should be high on this potential new orgs. list. The first word alone "Recognition" needs to be thru your town, County,State and then Nationwide to be a true benefit to each and every contractor. Alot of people say that a national org. may not be as beneficial to there business because they may not address the certain needs that each contractor has in there own State,County and Town. That is true. Its like one big puzzle when it comes to this org. business. Maybe by putting together the small pieces which could be thru the states first along with building a national org. to support these states is alot to ask for and maybe a bit unreasonable to think that it can work....and work right. Whatever it is its going to take alot of Volunteers. Its going to take people with alot of passion and determination to try and put this puzzle pieces together. Its a monumental task no doubt....but it can be done.
