Would anyone else like to advise????? Maybe I should try posting in another part of this forum.

Thanks!

Ron,
Why is it that the PW industry as I see it on this and other posting sites, think that by charging $100.00 / hr. that they are making money? If that is the case, do you think maybe education should be a very large part of the industry soon? Thank You.

I think you can be profitable at $100/hr. If you have 90 shopping centers all on monthly plans. Each of them take 2 hours you can get 9 done a day with three rigs. That's $1800 a day $55800/monthly and $669600/yearly. You pay 3 employees to help you $32k a year that's $96000/year. That leaves you $573,600 to buy equipment invest in your company any pay expenses. Your still making a pretty good income. Of course it's not always like this but I think you can make decent money and live a well life. Although I would said $100/hr PROFIT is minimum especially if your a new business trying to survive rough times.

Shark,
What I have seen for quite awhile is many posters say they charge $100.00 / man hr. They may or may not be profitable, based on the requirements of their company. If they have no equipment or vehicle payments, get discount products and supplies, live a simple lifestyle, they may be profitable. If they have the newest equipment overkill PWers and live high on the Hog, they may be heading towards disaster. By you charging $100.00/ hr I would only be a fool doing the same without knowing my numbers and running our business intelligently. Whether I do $1,000,000 or $10,000 in business doesn't make any difference. It is knowing my numbers and charging accordingly. I could give you numbers all day and say I am making money. Where you make a profit is charging your rate for a profit. If another company and ours had exactly the same cost to run our business and they charged $100.00, I charged the true cost, I would be around alot longer and more sucessful. Thank You.

what do you mean by true cost?

Did I ever say what I charge? You said you can't make money on charging $100/hr and I replyed that you can be profitable and gave you an example.

Shark, I'm sorry, I did not see where I said you could not make money at $100.00 / hr? I don't know how much you make, and it doesn't matter in what I said. You make money according to what your expenses are and how much you charge. You may or may not make money at that rate, if that is what your business needs to make a profit. We all could make examples on how to make money at any given price. All based on your companys needs.
MikeFP,
For a company to be profitable and stay afloat, you need to know your true cost. That would consist of your companys business plan, your companys cost to run your business and how much profit you wish to make.
I agree if I charged $100.00 / hr pressure washing had a rig and equipment paid for, which could get the job done, worked by myself and no payments, I would probably be OK? If I hired help, bought a new truck, a Bandit, etc. I would have to adjust my rates to be profitable. One thing may be that many folks are doing PWing part time, and have little invested. I'm sure there has been a poll asking how many people on this site are doing PWing part time. It would be interesting who relys on their income of PWing to survive? Maybe we could get a poll to see? If every penny we made was in our PWing business it would be more beneficial to us to keep track of how we are doing? Knowing our true cost. I hope this helps. Thank You.

i get what your saying and you are right, all situations differ from one another, but no matter what, you would have to adjust your rates accordingly.

Lets See at Blaines in Jackson I can get a 16 foot tandem axle trailer for around 650.00 then a 300-500 gallon water tank at the coop for about 300.00 then a great 3500 @ 5gpm Hot water machine with 120v generator for about 4000.00 .... I would shop around... Heck My whitco machine and truck and supplies that I have been running for 5 years now has made me over 300,000 dollars and I payed around 10,000 for the whole set up including the truck...
Let me go find some wood to knock on... I got to go on another 300 mile trip this week...

It's not how pretty your equipment is , its how you do the job that counts....

Big Guy uneven cleaning areas

Ron, my big guy surface cleaner seems to leave a strip of dirt when I clean concrete lately. I walk slow and I make sure I don't overlap my passes and I still see strips that look like the dirt is there and the pass next to it looks real clean. I don't know why this is happening. I was told once to walk slower and make sure I don't overlap my passes, but it still shows up. Do you have any suggestions for me? I hate to have to go back over this with a want just to even everything up all the time. Thanks and well back! I enjoyed your video clips while you were at the roundtable meeting. Hugh
