Hydraulic Oil spill on asphalt

StandOut

Any advice on cleaning hydraulic oil from asphalt? It's about a week old and approx 200 sq ft. I've already tried some concrete chem that does decent with oil on concrete, but it didn't make a dent on the asphalt. I brushed it on and let it sit for about 20 mins then used a surface cleaner and wand afterward...no luck. Any suggestions on chems would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You aren't going to get it out. Sorry, but Asphalt is Oliphilic. That means oil is attracted to it. What you can do is remove all the free standing oils. I use a vacuum recovery system to do this.
My procedure is to get up as much as I can with Kitty Litter.
I pretreat the area with a degreaser.
I run the surface cleaner over the area until there is no sign of kitty litter left, using the vacuum recovery.

I let my customers know at the start, you will see where the oil is when I am done. You will not be able to see the oil in a month. It will be totally absorbed, and all damage will be averted because the free oils have been removed.

Thanks Scott. The company that caused the leak put kitty litter and wood chips down immediately to absorb most of the free standing oils - this was about a week and a half ago. Then yesterday I brushed in a chemical and pressured it off using a surface cleaner. Like you said, the stain was still there. Should I be comfortable telling the customer that the stain will lighten up in a month? Or should I apply a degreaser and pressure it off again?

Thanks again.

Cool, share. I have been doing them for quite a while and have no success, but I have had satisfied customers, because they knew what would happen.

I think Jeff from JL Pressure washing used BT200 with good results on a hydraulic spill on asphalt, can't find the thread

Won't bt20000000 eat the asphalt? How about the difference between seal coat and asphalt? I have always seen the area just blend in in a short time.

I would contact Doug on this forum, he supplies bt200 and would be able to answer your question
I think it would work for you.
There is also a product call sw1000 that people swear by I would call them for there opinion 561-271-2710

I sell and use sw 1000 and it's a great product. It'll pull dried ink out of fabric, clean HEAVY grease plus it'll do all kinds of stuff that you wouldn't expect.......however....... I've tried in on a oil spill and it brought all the surface oil up but didn't remove the stain. It truly is a very unique product but only time will do that IMHO.

I haven't used BT200 on asphalt but am told it works very well. BUT you have to apply it and just let it sit for up to 23 days and the fluid should be gone. No it isn't suppose to eat the asphalt at all. I would try it, it's a pretty awesome product on pavers for hydraulic and oil stains. Go strong with it. Call Doug Rucker
