stained house

Washing a stained house on Friday.
I washed 1 of these last year with no problems, but this one hasn't been stained in about 10 years I believe she said.
Anything I should be cautious of using my normal house wash mix?

Stained, as in wood? Do you plan on neutralizing after coating it in SH?

yea it's wood but its that stain that looks like paint.

Will be interested in the replys to this thread. Next month we have a large 3-story office building to wash. Stained cedar siding, lots of algae and some moss. To be restained after we clean it.

It is important to find out what the future plan is with the house. If it is just a light cleaning then you should get something signed in writing that you are not responsible for degraded stain. After 10 years it should need to be cleaned and prepped for re-coating. There will most definitely be chips coming off somewhere and you do not want to be responsible for this. Another option on a small house would be to hand scrub which will alleviate any issues a customer could have with a pressure washer. If you are prepping it then you would use a stronger solution to prep the surface and you need not worry about existing stain. I perform exterior wood restoration services so I would be trying to sell the re-staining but we do perform maintenance cleanings and house washes, this is what I would do.

I agree with Everett, it is very important to find out the plans for future restoration. If they want just a cleaning for now, then do like Everett said and make sure you clarify your not responsible for failing stain/paint issues. For just a cleaning, I would down stream (or with a dedicated pump) a very light house wash mix, and rinse lightly using a low flow tip (black tip) or open ball valve, standing back away from the surface. This will help minimize any removal of flaking or failed stain/paint. It looks to me to be a fairly easy cleaning, looks like lap and gap siding, but hard to tell exactly from the pic. Always do a test spot, like on the back of the home before proceeding with cleaning. Take before pics of any preexisting damaged paint with something in the pic that shows clearly it's a before pic.

Anytime I have anything that involves wood I always find out if they have any plans for restoration, if they do I refer them to Shane or Adrian here in the Houston area.
