5th wheel cleaning, help

I have my first 5th wheel cleaning job today, just a regular wash, and dress the rims/tires. the roof is pretty green, but the sides are'nt too bad. My question is, should I use a car/truck wash soap on this with a brush, or treat it as if it were a house and use Jomax and pressure wash it? Any help is highly appreciated. thanks!

5th wheel cleaning is greasy work. I would use a good degreaser and definately hot water. Your going to get grease all over the place when you blast it so be ready to make a mess.

You need to inform the customer what you about to do and the mess that it will make. Normally, when we tell the customer this they change their mind. As they will be walking through the cleaning area and tracking grease all over - it gets in the office/house/car/truck/etc. Unless, you clean the area afterwards which I would suggest.

Also, you pressure hose will be covered in grease as well and that will rub off at your next job. So change hose if you go to do residental work next.

Good Luck!!!

If it's green on top I'm guessing it's a trailer that's been parked under trees etc and not road crud. I'd do a test spot with some house wash with the normal dwell time and give it a rinse.

I think Danny is right on this one. Back in my trucking days we never cleaned the actual 5th wheel off. If this is the case, maybe the guy doesn't want to get the new grease mixed in with the old grease. I could've sworn though on a 5th wheel grease is grease.

Yeah, I meant 5th wheel rv trailer. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for everyones help and fast responses! I love these forums!

Glad that it was a travel trailer, cleaning up 5th wheels can be a very dirty job with all that grease all over the place.

Glad everyone is on the same page now, you have the info on how to get it done, take pictures for showing future customers.

Funny, my mind went the same direction as Michaels.

Just curious. Do you use jomax as your house wash mix?

No, I tried it the other day because a friend of mine told me I should give it a try. Didn't like the results, it took too long for it to react and actually start doing the work.

I have tried jomax many times in the past and honestly it seemed to weaken my mix, I gave up on that stuff many years ago.

Sometimes it is best to keep things simple and effective.

Do not use hot water unless you want to remove the stickers off the RV. I have done alot of them in the past. Call me

Me too. I usually put a tarp around the area to control some of the flying grease. Its a messy job for sure, still not as bad as some of the heavy equipment though.

I own a fith wheel. Make sure you dont put a house wash mix on a rubber roof. NO bleeach on rubber roofs!!! You are going to have to hand wash the camper.

I finished the travel trailer today, turned out good for my first one. Im gonna try to post some pics of before and after soon. thanks for everyones help

How much can you get to clean a travel trailer?

Depends, We do detailing on them and are able to get as much as $600 - $800 for a complete exterior detail. The price really depends on the shape of the camper and style "There are a lot of R.V.'s out there that are over $1,000,000 and those will pay top dollar to have them detailed. It is hard work though and will take a single person almost all day to complete.
