There are basically 2 types of step 1 acids. Hydrofluoric / sulfuric blend which will etch glass and aluminum and phosphoric / citric blend which is glass and polished aluminum safe. The SH soap you use now will probably suffice for the 2nd step. Pressure washers designed to 2 step are set up to precisely meter the chemicals for optimum cleaning and minimal damage to surfaces, as well as most of the components being acid resistant.

Russ is right on the mark with the acids and soap, although not all acid will etch glass unless you let it dry on it.
In order to 2 step properly and with minimal time you need the proper setup as well. If you intend on doing any amount of fleets you will want to minimize brushing. The only thing I brush is chrome bumpers and the occasional cab, wich depends on if they have gone over the pass or not. If you want more info I would be happy to help you out.

Thank you bolth for the reply i ve done alot of fleets i use to wash fleets 7 days a week for 2 years but had problems gettin good help so ive cut back we would do up to 50-60 trucks at a time but ive used basicaly the same system when there was two of us i would use a shurflo to apply chem. and then a hot water high pressure rinse to get the dirt off we did do alot of brushing but its the only way i knew and seem to work pretty well have a hard time getting wheels clean break dust build up is a problem hard to get my brush in there. now that iam by myself i down stream my soap throu my pressure washer it works pretty well still brush if there real dirty the fleets i do are 2 times a week so thay stay pretty clean but there goin to increase there volume in a few months to about 55 trucks i will be hireing some help and was thinkin of 2 steping .. also i have a new account iam working on that has some truck tractors with polished aluminum thanks a wheels that thay dont want to have turned white from my acid but say where thay have them washed now thay are being acid washed and all the acid washing ive done turned all the aluminum that i washed white so was wanting to know what the safe way to was polished aluminum is ? i think even the soap i use can leave chem lines in it. right now i use the panal boss from delco. what kind of setup do i need for a 2 step proces. right now i have a hot 5.6 gpm machine mounted to a trailer and some water tanks a and also a shurflow set up and some chem tanks . i dont use the shurflo much right now. thanks for all the help guys talk to you soon

Hey Dan are you still washing? I'm over here in enumclaw and just ran across this old thread while researching 2 stepping polished rigs.
