Komatsu 930 Mining Rigid Dump Trucks

Hey Fellas! Just a quick question, I have an opportunity to do a freebie promo on a Komatsu 930E Dump Truck for a photo op so I can put it on my website. My question is, if they ask me to give them a bid, which I am anticipating, how much would you suggest I charge for both a quick exterior wash on a scheduled maintenance program as well as a full under cab and under bucket cleaning? The unit is 40 feet high when the bucket is in the upright position so a boom truck will be used to get full access to the unit. Check out the picture I've attached and let me know what you think. Feedback would be great.

Later,
jason @ Altitude

You need a reference in the picture to show the actual size! Those mining trucks are huge! I've never cleaned one though! I would imagine it's not much different from a truck wash...only more like washing a building w/ truck soap...
I'd do the demo and then decide on a price!

What he said. I would wash it once, and figure it out using my standard hourly rate. You will end out doing well, if they accept, because you will get faster.

I would think that washing them would be pretty difficult due to the amount of dirt / grime that would accumulate on that type of equipment. I would base it on your hourly rate especially the undercarriage cleaning, I can only imagine what is under there. The before pic is pretty bad, so the after should be a great promo piece for you.If you price it right, I would imagine that there is alot of money to be made with that type of account.

An hourly charge for what you usually charge for heavy equipment cleaning, more if they want degreasing done as there will be buckets of grease coming off if they want that done.

Use the soap that you usually use for heavy equipment cleaning and you should do ok.

$500 would be a good guess for full cleaning. Don't under estimate the amount of degreaser that can go onto one of those units. They are always caked with oil but hidden by dirt! My suggestion would be hourly plus chemicals as it's always the best for both parties involved in situations like that.

Time and materials are your best bet but don't quote it that way quote by the unit once you estimate your time to do the job. I have done some of those before and they usually clean up fairly easy on the exterior. High flow machines will cut your time dramatically. When i did them the exterior took about an hour and depending on how elaborate they wanted to get on the engine and undercarriage figure another 2 hours plus. The initial cleaning will always be the worst so price that one accordingly.

As much as a like to charge by piece i would rather to charge an hourly rate on this particular case, plus chemicalls which is mostly degreaser but there is another factor to consider like how often you gonna wash them, how many pieces they going to give you etc but remember that the first wash it's alway the most dificult but on this particular mining equipment you can find them dirty and muddy couple of days after you washed them, with a good gpm and a decent psi machine you can cut you schedule maintence significly and then you can give them a piece of rate quote, good luck and i hope yuo'll get it
