Penndot Pulls Plug On $300,000 Truck Wash

Taxpayers Stuck With Bill After Project Backfires

<!--startindex-->A massive machine meant to save money and go green at Penndot's maintenance facility in Greensburg hasn't been used in months.
The automated truck washing system was built at a cost of $278,000.

Those large automated systems never provide the cost savings they sell, maint is never added into the sales pitch. Plus they really don't do a spectacular job that a manual one will.

$300k I bet a local guy would have washed their trucks weekly for several years for that.

Maybe it is like what Trevor mentioned, it might be a good thing for the local fleet wash guys, maybe they might have a chance at washing the fleet for a fair wage?

Something else to think about.

Say an individual wanted to build this at their property, either brushless or brushes or having guys inside and washing them manually, do you think that it would be cost effective?

I think that it could be if there was someone there with ownership, watching the expenses, keeping track of maintenance costs, payroll, chemicals, etc....

I have been wanting to get a piece of land and make something like Steamaway or Blue Beacon but do not know if it is cost effective or what the initial cost would be, I am thinking about 500K to build it and land cost.

What do you guys think about all of this?

Thank You.

It isn't less expensive... actually it is more expensive but it allows them some level of control and makes them feel better when someone scares them about EPA stuff.
