3D models

How do you organize and store your collection of downloaded 3D models? Do you tag them by category, printer settings, or material type for easy finding later?

I used to just dump every STL into one messy folder until I lost an entire week refinding a specific articulated dragon I wanted to tweak. Now I organize by category first like characters, functional parts, and art toys, then inside each folder I add sub tags for printer settings such as 0.2mm layer or resin friendly. After checking the top 3d models to print I noticed that professionally made files often include suggested material types, so now I tag everything by PLA, PETG, or resin as well. A huge game changer was adding a simple text file next to each model with notes on supports, infill, and print time because my memory fails after fifty prints. I also keep a separate folder for test prints and failed attempts so I do not waste time re slicing the same mistakes. This system took an afternoon to set up but saves me hours every month.
