Going to buy a 2nd unit for my son to come behind me and rinse do sidewalks, driveways etc. I know most of you are not big fans of home depot @ lowes washers. But financially that is my route to go. Because i do this part time. My question is, Sam's club has a Porter Cable 15 hp Kohler 4000 psi @ 4 gal a min. direct drive for $ 900.00
{I already have a hot water machine} Do not know what pump is on it yet. Haven't heard much of a Kohler on a pwer. Wondering if any of you might of heard about one of these, or have any imput on this? Any and all responces would be greatly appreaciated
{Good or bad} Thanks. P.S. I just purchased a surface cleaner which this also will be running. This will be posted on other borards also. Just to get all the input i can.

I would not buy a direct drive. I would check around, I think some distributors that you find on this board as well as others might be able to do better on a comparable machine.

Trace,

I think a direct drive machine would be fine for what you are describing. It will fit your present limited buget. If possible, I do beleive spending the extra $300. for a belt drive unit would give you more long term benefits. Lowwer rpms on the pump, less heat tranfer, the ability to lift water from a tank, longer service life ect.

The Kohler is a good engine and should provide good service. I beleive the Sam's pw comes either an AR, General, or Cat pump.
Either of the three should be fine. That Kohler comes with a spin on oil filter which I like. It also has the low oil shut down feature Just keep the oil changed as recomended. For more info on this engine go to www.kohler.com

A 13 HP Honda would also work well for this application. Occasionaly some of the 13's have been difficult to start.

Home Depot is currently offering six months @ 0% right now!

Will you have enough water supply to run both machines at one time?

Water supply should not be a problem, i will fill my 300 gal tank and my son should be able to rince a house with that or what ever else and i will use their water for my machine or visa-versa.

A direct drive machine will not draw water out of a tank very well. It will need to be force fed. Where in Pa are you?

Trace,

If the tank is elevated higher than the d.d. pump it should be ok.

You would want to use a large i.d. line(1"-2") from the tank and neck down to 1/2" to feed the pump. Make the hose as short as possible.

I would just use the tank for the larger b.d. machine and the customers water source for the d.d. unit.

untill i get a bigger trailer mi tank sits in the back of my truck, which makes it sit considerlby higher the hose i have running from washer to tank is about 8'long
