Cleaning water filter

I need to clean my water filter, it's a little green looking I tried to twist off the plastic top but couldn't get it to budge, is there a way to take these off?I Didn't want to use to much force and break it.

I will get a picture, just thought we all had the same basic water filter with the plastic see-through top
