Engine won't shut off

I swear I invent equipment problems. I got a new Vanguard motor (all I could get in the time frame I had) to replace the one that died last week. I get to the job and start cleaning and go to shut down the motor and it won't turn off. It's got an electric start and the key won't turn to the off position. I can even take the key out and it still runs. Any suggestions?

Pull the ignition off, do a little tinkering, and your back to fighting weight.
In the event you can't find the problem, install a secondary kill switch. Cheap, quick, and easy. If you have an hour meter, you may need to install the new switch before the meter.

My Honda gx390 did the same thing. I unplugged the kill switch and them reconnect it and it shut off. Might just be a bad connection...

Sam, there's a grounding lug on the right side of the engine right behind the fan cover. Make sure the black wire is connected to it. They sometimes come loose.

Is the engine a general purpose engine, or is it made to retrofit a certain piece of equipment?

Thanks for the help guys. Doug suggested choking it and that worked. Its going back to the engine shop tomorrow….. oh wait, they're closed on Mondays….my luck continues!!!!
